Melita edged closer to clinching the BOV Challenge League title with a convincing 2-0 victory over Zabbar at the Centenary Stadium. This crucial match on the 23rd featured the two top teams of the league, both promoted earlier in the season and now competing for the championship.

The match, played in front of the season’s largest crowd, was a tense affair with both teams initially struggling to score in the first half, hindered partly by strong winds. However, the second half saw Melita capitalise on the wind advantage. Jesus Yepez opened the scoring early in the half with a well-struck volley, assisted by Andre Carlos. Not long after, Matthew Debattista doubled the lead with a powerful long-range shot, again set up by Carlos, making it difficult for the Zabbar goalkeeper to respond.

This win brought Melita within one point of the title, bolstered by their formidable defense achieving their fifth consecutive clean sheet and maintaining an unbeaten streak in the top six. The team’s solid performance and strategic plays were crucial in securing these valuable three points in their title chase.

Melita’s latest win, highlighted by their fifth consecutive clean sheet and an unbeaten run in the top six, brings them closer to a league title, with Zabbar equally positioned to challenge for top honours in the remaining fixtures.

Time will tell which Maltese team will manage to clench league supremacy. Who are you supporting?
