This is part of the 2024 edition of the Minimum Essential Budget for a Decent Living (MEBDL), which calculates the cost of essential goods and services such as food, clothing, health, education, and transport.

The study outlines three household types: a family of four (€19,153), a single parent with two children (€17,012.83), and a couple aged 65 and over (€14,731.79).

Caritas also introduced an Augmented Basket, which includes extra costs like dining out, owning a car, and unsubsidized housing, raising the budget for a family of four to €33,176.50, for a single parent to €30,724.33, and for an elderly couple to €26,556.29.

Food expenses account for 30% to 56% of total costs across all household types. The study includes 31 policy recommendations aimed at promoting social justice, economic equality, and sustainable living for low-income families in Malta.

The Mosta Girl Guides embarked on a memorable adventure to the UK this summer, with 33 participants, including 11 adult volunteers, representing Malta at the Essex International Jamboree 2024 (EIJ 2024).

Held in Chelmsford from July 27th to August 7th, this international event themed “A Celebration of Girl Guiding and Scouting” offered the girls a chance to engage in diverse activities, forge new friendships, and experience a rich cultural exchange. The jamboree was packed with exciting experiences, including cycling, archery, high ropes, and team-building challenges.

The campsite featured different zones, each with unique activities. The girls enjoyed water-based fun, creative problem-solving, and even traditional English games like cricket. One of the highlights was the International Night, where the Mosta Girl Guides proudly showcased Maltese culture, performing songs and sharing traditional foods.

After the jamboree, the adventure continued in London, where the girls explored famous landmarks, enjoyed a Thames River cruise, and visited Pax Lodge, a World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts center. The trip concluded with the Mosta Girl Guides hosting a group from Buckinghamshire in Malta, further strengthening their bonds of friendship.
