Mater Dei reduces parents’ visiting hours to one hour per day

Mater Dei took to FaceBook to announce that due to COVID-19 restrictions and attempting to mitigate the spread to unvaccinated mothers and newborns, especially given the presence of the new UK variant. Apart from wanting to avoid staff from obstetrics wards ending up in quarantine, the hospital claimed that it has no option but to reduce visiting times following delivery to one hour per day.

The hospital also announced that no changes had been made in regards to the presence of fathers during labour and delivery. The public outcry from parents changed the initial ban which parents were being given from the ward after birth.

Prince Harry and Meghan talk about leaving royalty with Oprah

Duke and Duchess of Sussex prince Harry and Meghan, sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey last night to discuss their departure from royalty. Prince Harry accredited his ability to move away from his duties to Meghan, which would have been immensely difficulty otherwise. He then extends his compassion to his father and brother, who cannot leave that lifestyle.

Prince Harry claimed he felt trapped and did not see a way out until he met Meghan. He also expresses his sadness that Prince Charles stopped taking calls as the couple worked on leaving royalty, along with finding it financially difficulty due to being completely cut off. The Prince still has a good relationship with his grandmother, the Queen. The full interview which aired on CBS also included topics ranging from mental health, life inside royalty, racism and even revealing the gender of their baby being a girl.

Man convicted with armed robbery arrested in Ta’ Xbiex

Police were informed yesterday late evening, 7th March, that a 28-year-old man had robbed two women, pulling out a knife on them, as they were walking along the bay, taking off with one of the women’s bags. The Rapid Intervention Unit convened immediately and arrested the man in Ta’ Xbiex.

Several investigations were made into the man’s residence, in which not only the woman’s items were found, but also several items from other robberies. The assailant is being held in police general headquarters lock-up in Floriana for further investigation.

Man and woman injured in traffic accident in Zejtun

Police have reported that an Italian man, 25-years-old, from San Gwann and a Maltese woman, 23, from Hal Gharghur are suffering grievous injuries after a traffic accident in Zejtun. Reports say that a motorcycle driven by a man, with whom the woman was riding, and a Suzuki swift driven by the Italian man crashed into each other in Triq Bir id-Deheb.

First response medical team converged onto the scene and transported the victims to Mater Dei. Magistrate Dr Joe Mifsud LL. D was informed by the case, who ordered that further investigation be done along with several experts. Investigations are still ongoing.
