Mater Dei patients will soon be able to spend time with their pets in special cabins

In the coming days, patients at Mater Dei hospital will be able to spend some time with their pets in specialised ‘pet cabins’.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne announced this during a programme of Pjazza on ONE TV. Fearne explained that such cabins were already in place three years ago and had to come to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He went on to state that patients have been waiting for the initiative for a long time and will now be able to spend some time with their pets whilst being treated.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that everyone who has a pet understands how important they are to them, comparing a visit from one’s pet to that of a family member.

Tina Turner immortalised with special edition Barbie on song’s 40th anniversary

Legendary singer Tina Turner has been honoured with a limited edition Barbie by Mattel, celebrating the 40th anniversary of her hit track ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’

The Tina Turner Barbie doll sports an iconic ’80s hairstyle, denim jacket and leather dress, with microphone in hand. Now 82 years old, Turner stated ‘I am honoured to welcome my Barbie into the group of trailblazing women already represented.’

Turner joins the likes of Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett and Diana Ross in getting her own special edition Barbie.

Three countries withdraw from Eurovision due to financial issues; Should Malta follow?

Macedonian broadcaster MRT has revealed that North Macedonia will not be participating in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

The country’s withdrawal from the popular song contest is due to consideration towards the current economy and energy crisis, with this being the first time the country ever withdrew from the Eurovision. The country has participated 21 times in the popular song contest, with their best result being 7th place in 2019.

Meanwhile, Montenegro’s broadcaster, RTCG, stated that the costs of staying in Great Britain, significant registration costs and lack of sponsors have pushed them to take the decision to withdraw.

Elsewhere, Bulgaria’s broadcaster reported that the country will also not take part, this year and even in the future, stating: “After analysis it was decided that this program does not present an interest for the broadcaster any longer.”

Over the past years, Malta’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest generated a fair bit of controversy due to considerations of excessive spending and relatively poor performance with many calling for Malta to opt out of the competition.

The Labour Party was founded 102 years ago today

Today, the Labour Party celebrates 102 year since it was first founded. On 15th October 1920, 12 men from various working sectors across Malta met in Valletta to found what was then known as the ‘Camera del Lavoro’, which eventually became the Labour Party.

On the 15th of October 1920, 12 men established what was then known as “la Camera del Lavoro” representing a voice for all workers.

During those days, Maltese workers were faced with adversity following the First World War, with many ending up without a job. Such hard times led to the Sette Giugnio riots, where Maltese rioters were shot by British Troops, leaving four dead.

The founding members and initial activists, the majority of which were shipyard workers, formed the Labour Party to help workers and disadvantaged members of society.
