The 2025 edition of the ERA Awards has been announced, held under the patronage of President Myriam Spiteri Debono, and will feature four new categories, further recognising public entities, voluntary organisations, the private sector and educational institutions, making a difference in environmental protection.

The new award categories will complement the existing Buonamico and Special Recognition Awards, following a rebranding that aims to elevate the ERA Awards as a leading annual event celebrating environmental leadership.

The four new award categories are:

• Corporate Award for Environmental Innovation and Sustainability for private sector: For businesses implementing impactful green initiatives.
• Environmental Stewardship Award for Voluntary Organisations: Celebrating community-based sustainability projects.
• Green Public Leadership Award for public entities: Recognising public entities leading with eco-friendly practices.
• Green School Scheme for Educational Institutions and Learning Programmes: Funding eco-projects in schools that promote hands-on environmental learning.

If you are part of the above categories – making a real difference for the environment in Malta, now’s the time to get the recognition you deserve. With new award categories, there’s room to celebrate all kinds of eco-heroes, from business change makers to local volunteers and inspiring educators.

St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation has officially launched a new art exhibition titled ‘Portraying St John’s Co-Cathedral Through Time’, showcasing around 50 paintings that depict the iconic co-cathedral across the centuries.

This unique collection presents a powerful visual journey through time, featuring artworks by both old masters and contemporary artists.

The exhibition captures the grandeur of the cathedral’s interior and exterior, reflecting the continuous inspiration it has provided for generations.

The pieces, sourced from both public and private collections in Malta, offer diverse artistic interpretations of the Co-Cathedral’s beauty, spirituality and historical significance.

Spanning from the late 16th century to the modern day, the collection illustrates the lasting cultural and religious impact of one of Malta’s most treasured landmarks.

Professor Mons Emmanuel Agius, President of the Foundation, remarked that the cathedral is not only a sacred place but also a living source of artistic inspiration.

Minister for National Heritage Owen Bonnici praised the initiative, emphasising the government’s commitment to heritage preservation and inviting the public to explore the exhibition.

Celebrating the Co-Cathedral as a beacon of faith, history, and art, the exhibition is part of ongoing efforts to promote Maltese culture and heritage both locally and internationally.

Local pole vaulter Sana Grillo took to Instgram to open up about the realities of being an athlete and trying to perform at the highest levels.

Alongside being a 3 times national pole vault champion, Sana Grillo is also a sports psychology practitioner.

Grillo stated that being an athlete isn’t about the personal bests and top performance, but it’s also about the quiet battles behind the scenes.

She continued on by saying that there are frustrating times “when you train harder than ever, are focused, disciplined – but the results still don’t show up in the way you hoped.”

Sana also spoke about the mental war that most athletes face, having to push their body to the max but also listen to it to make sure that no injuries come up.

The pole vaulter ended her message by stating “This is the part people don’t always see yet so many athletes face. The persistence it takes to keep pushing when progress feels invisible, to trust that the work will pay off – even if it’s not now.”
