Masks to be worn in all public spaces at all times

During a special press conference, Health Minister Chris Fearne has announced that the protective face masks will now be required to be worn in all public spaces.

This means that everyone will be required to wear a face mask as soon as they step out of their homes.

Fines will be given to anyone not adhering to this new measure, with Dr.Fearne stating that a trial week will be given so that people would be able to get used to the new norm of wearing a face mask at all times.

Children under the age of 3 & people with respiratory problems will not be required to wear a face mask at all times

Health Superintendent Charmaine Gauci announced that Children under the age of 3 will not be required to wear a face mask at all times in public spaces. People with respiratory problems will also be excused from wearing a face mask.

Masks can be removed in private vehicles, but it is still recommended to wear a mask when there are passengers onboard, although it is not enforced.

Gauci stated the importance of keeping active and announced that people will not be required to wear a face mask while cycling and jogging outdoors – yet a face mask is still required for when they stop doing the activity.

Gauci said that face masks shall be removed upon entry in Banks in order for one to be identified, and those receiving facial treatments can also have their face masks removed.

Covid dedicated teams to be formed in order to enhance enforcement

Minister for Home Affairs, Law Enforcement and National Security Byron Cammileri, has announced during a special press conference, that the LESA and the Malta Police Force will be setting up new Covid dedicated teams in order to enhance enforcement and make sure that people and businesses are adhering to all covid-19 safety protocols.

This comes after Malta recorded a record 122 new covid-19 cases, with the total number of active covid-19 cases topping 1,000.

More than 75,000 influenza vaccines have been administered in just 6 days

Health Minister Chris Fearne announced that in just 6 days more than 75,000 people had taken the seasonal influenza vaccines which is being administered for free in every town.

It was already announced earlier this week that on the very first day that the influenza vaccine became available, more than 10,000 people had taken the jab.
