Football Match In Honour Of Lassana Cisse 6 Years After Murder

Football Match In Honour Of Lassana Cisse 6 Years After Murder
Apr 7 2025 Share

A football match was held this past Sunday to honour Lassana Cisse, six years after his murder in 2019.

‘On 6th April 2019, Lassana Cisse, a Black migrant, was brutally killed in a racist drive-by shooting allegedly carried out by two off-duty Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) soldiers’, Moviment Graffitti explained in a statement.

‘Two other migrants were injured in the attack. Six years later, justice remains denied, and racism continues to dehumanise migrant communities in Malta.’

‘Today, we remember Lassana and stand in solidarity with all Black and racialised people who face violence simply for existing. Lassana’s murder was not an isolated incident—it was a terrorist attack, intended to instill fear and division.’

The activist group listed three demands for justice to take place: real accountability for Lassana’s murder and racist violence; institutional reform to root out racism from state structures; an end to racist rhetoric that fuels such hatred & violence.

‘Six years is too long to wait. Justice delayed is justice denied.’

During this Sunday’s ‘freeze’ moment, Karl was visited by his two nephews while in the house, with the contestant having to close his eyes to contain his emotion as the two boys embraced and gave him little kisses.

They whispered in messages of support from his loved ones outside of the House as Karl mustered all his strength to stay composed.

After the freeze was lifted however, Karl immediately got up and lifted his nephews up for a big hug.

But the excitement did not end there as the two boys handed him the envelope that confirmed his official placing in the grand finale.
