Man to be charged with murder of Rita Ellul

A man, reportedly of Ghanian nationality, was arrested and is set to be charged with homicide in the Gozo courts.

The victim was a 47-year-old woman from Iklin, Rita Ellul, who was found dead inside a residence on Triq Dun Franġisk Mizzi in Għajnsielem, Gozo.

The homicide was said to have occurred on Saturday, 26th of February, at 12pm, with police finding the woman dead inside the Gozo residence when convening on the scene. The man will be charged at 1:30pm before Magistrate Bridgette Sultana.

PN promises to deliver tax-free pensions at same level as minimum wage

“We don’t want anyone to suffer going into the end of the month,” said PN deputy leader David Agius before he continued to highlight the Nationalist Party’s pledge for just & dignified pensions.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday evening, Agius reiterated the Nationalist Party’s promise to increase the minimum pension to minimum wage, going on to shine a light on the 12 proposals aimed at addressing pensioners’ wellbeing and quality of life. He stated that many elderly individuals & social organisations were in contact with the PN saying that they face injustices daily and cannot afford the cost of living.

The ‘biggest package for pensioners’, as Agius claimed, includes tax-exempt pensions, full pension entitlement to widows, a brand new pension fund to ensure long-term sustainability, a cost of living bonus and support for individuals who do not qualify for pension or are in need, amongst other proposals.

“Not even as a joke”, Ian Borg reacts to Bernard Grech’s Labour HQ ODZ remark

During Tuesday Labour Party’s political rally in Mosta, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Capital Projects Ian Borg expressed his disapproval of PN leader Bernard Grech’s recent remarks that he would turn the Labour headquarters into ODZ land.

“Don’t even say it as a joke, don’t joke about our home”, Borg said to a roaring audience in central Mosta. The Minister went on to state that after the election, the Labour Party begins to work on what was promised, highlighting that the Government implemented projects in over 33 residential roads in Mosta. “Do us a favour, not even as a joke, don’t say it about our home; it’s not funny and no one laughed,” he stated.

Contesting on the sixth and seventh districts, Borg slammed the Opposition leader’s comments, saying that their are not appropriate for someone who aspires to lead the country.

Safe sex work among Volt Malta’s manifesto proposals

Volt Malta has just released its electoral manifesto on Tuesday, focusing on everything from safeguarding sex workers as well as wellbeing of workers and euthanasia.

Drawing inspiration from New Zealand and Dutch models for their policies, Volt have proposed focusing on the empowerment of sex workers, including even harsher sentences for human traffickers.

The manifesto, released Tuesday, seeks to present a socially progressive and economically balanced manifesto with several ideas which other parties did not address. The party even embraced the Portuguese model when it comes to recreational drugs, such as decriminalising all drug users and addicts. This comes as Malta is set to decriminalise marijuana.

Euthanasia also featured in the manifesto, with the party detailing different types of euthanasia and how it would aim to approach the subject with the focus being on the individual’s choice.

When it comes to the education system, the party put forth different proposals which include the reduction of mandatory exams an assessments as well as an overhaul of syllabi to trim out excess information and highlight other areas. These accompany life tools such as financial literacy and civid education, as well as creating an artist-centric commune which trains artists in all sorts of disciplines.

Volt Malta currently currently has two candidates, Thomas Kassandra Mallia and Alexia Debono.
