The Opposition’s health spokesperson and former PN MP raised concerns on Wednesday about the death of a man in the A&E emergency waiting room after he had reportedly been left waiting despite reporting chest pain.
Adrian Delia and Jason Azzopardi did not name the individual in their Facebook posts, but social media users identified the 55-year-old man as Stephen Mangion.
Tributes starting pouring out for Mangion, with many referring to the claims made by the likes of Delia and Azzopardi.
Azzopardi stated that Mangion sought help at the Floriana health centre and was then advised to proceed to Mater Dei’s emergency department using his private vehicle.
Witnesses on social media claimed that Mangion complained of severe chest pain upon arrival at the hospital but was instructed to wait. Tragically, he collapsed and passed away before receiving medical attention.
Azzopardi described the incident as manslaughter due to negligence. In a separate post, Delia expressed that he had received numerous messages regarding the tragic event.
He emphasized that while he did not want to assign blame, he had long warned about the critical state of the emergency department, which was struggling to meet growing demand.
This is a developing story.
