Man found dead in Luqa Airport area

An unconscious man was found at the Malta International Airport in Ħal Luqa earlier today.

The police were informed of the case at 6.20AM and a medical team was called on site to assist the man, only to find him dead on site.

The man’s identity and cause of death are currently unknown but it is suspected to be a natural death.

60 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 154 recoveries

Malta has registered 60 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,637 swab tests, while 154 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

From yesterday’s cases; 26 cases were family members of previously known cases 18 cases were contact of positive work colleagues, 9 cases were direct contacts with other positive cases and 4 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases.

To date, Malta has registered 11,475 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 9,670 have recovered, 182 died and 1,623 are still active.

Gaffarena murder suspect released on €50,000 bail bond

The court has temporarily released Gaffarena murder suspect Owen Schembri on a €50,000 bail bond.

18-year-old Schembri, along with 19-year-old Leon Debono are accused of murdering 27-year-old Saviour Gaffarena and injuring his cousin Vince in a shooting in Imqabba last year.

Schembri has denied his involvement in the shooting and is being represented by lawyers Arthur Azzopardi, Alfred Abela and Rene Darmanin.

French President Emmanuel Macron tests positive for COVID-19

French President Emmanuel Macron is reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 after developing some symptoms.

The 42-year-old will still oversee his presidential responsibilities but will work remotely for the time being.
