Man dies after tragic car accident in Birkirkara

This morning, at around 0930hrs, Malta’s police force was informed of a traffic accident which occurred in Triq l-Imdina, Birkirkara.

From preliminary investigations, it was discovered that a 50-year-old man from Ħal Balzan was hit by a Toyota Vitz which was driven by a 34-year-old woman resident of Valletta.

A medical team also convened on the spot to give the required assistance, but, unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead on the spot. An inquiry was opened into the case and more investigations are underway.

Anti-war protest in front of Malta’s Russian Embassy

Last night, the Russian Embassy in San Ġwann, Malta saw a united front formed by Maltese and Ukrainians alike as they protested against the ongoing invasion of the latter’s home country.

The launch of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia saw major cities being targeted along with the eastern and southern borders of the country sustaining heavy bombardment.

In unison with protests occurring all over the world, the Malta protest saw the carrying of placards calling to stop the war and Russian President Putin. As for the Russian leader, he was depicted resembling the former German Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, as protestors compared the two due to the historical resemblance.

Other placards read ‘Stand with Ukraine’, as candles lit up the protest with a sombre atmosphere. Similar protests in Russia led to the arrest of many as even Russians voiced their disagreement with the invasion.

Another protest is set to occur on today before the Triton Fountain in Valletta, seeking to keep the awareness and pressure going towards a peaceful resolution.

Between sky and sea – Valletta art instalment captures Malta’s natural gifts

Taking to social media, Chairman for the Valletta Cultural Agency Jason Micallef uploaded snapshots of the latest art installation in the streets of Malta’s capital.

Put up by the same agency, the art instalment used appropriately coloured cloth and other material to capture the movement of waves of the seas surrounding the Maltese islands.

Appropriately titled ‘Between sky and sea’, the art exhibition consists of white, blue and green strips of cloth which mimic the ebb and flow of natural phenomena which bless the shorelines and environmental settings of the islands.

The Chairman of the agency highlighted how whether or not an election is taking place, the work of the agency does not stop as it seeks to continue enriching Malta’s already culturally rich capital city with more impressive works.

Micallef urged the public to visit the art instalment which is located in South Street (Triq in-Nofsinhar), emphasising the atmosphere the instalment created in the heart of Malta.

Malta International Fireworks Festival announced by Tourism Minister

Speaking to this newsroom, Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo unveiled the Malta International Fireworks Festival 2022.

Bartolo highlighted how the announcement of this festival is the means to give back to the Maltese people the country and the spring they truly deserve.

The event will be signalling larger events, more International participation as well as more healthy competition when it comes to events and other activities.

Bartolo highlighted how the event which occurred last year gave back around €30,000 to Malta’s fireworks production community. This, he said, highlights how the practice is a key element to Maltese tradition and culture, and that it should be safeguarded as such.

The event will be spread out over several days and throughout several localities in Malta and Gozo, providing the audience a spectacle of sky-based entertainment, the product of the hard work of Malta’s talented firework workers.
