Authorities Restore Order to St George’s Square in Rabat, Gozo

Authorities Restore Order to St George's Square in Rabat, Gozo
Jul 12 2024 Share

The project for outdoor dining at St George’s Square in Rabat, Gozo, has been enforced by the authorities, guaranteeing that restaurants follow the guidelines for setting up tables and chairs. The police , the Planning Authorities, The Lands Authority, and the Malta Tourism Authority were all involved in the operation.

This enforcement comes after a demonstration organised by an alliance of residents, cultural institutions, NGOs, and parish priest Joseph Curmi last month. They expressed worry about restaurants occupying public areas without permission. Even while the square’s master plan still contained spaces set aside for tables and chairs, a lot of business had pushed past these lines and clogged it up.

Fr.Curmi outlined the problems this incursion brought about, emphasising that it was wrong to  abuse public property. He brought up the fact that people who wanted to get married or  have funerals at the church needed permission to take down the chairs and tables. On important occasions , guests frequently encountered several challenges in spite of these permits.

The operation was effective in removing illegal seats and tables from the square, giving locals and guests back this important public area. This move highlights  how crucial it is to follow the  concept in order to preserve St George’s Square’s  harmony between accessibility and commercial activity.

Floriana FC Beat Tre Penne in UEFA Conference League

After falling behind early in the second half of their Europa Conference League match, Floriana rallied to win. In just eight minutes, they scored three goals to defeat the San Marino squad, Tre Penne.

With a good showing against Partizani of Albania, Marsaxlokk made a successful comeback to European football, tying 1-1. They gave themselves hope going into the next home leg despite letting up a goal as soon as the game began thanks to a fantastic effort by star player Yuri, who levelled the score.

After replacing Mauro Camoranesi in his 27th European game, Floriana’s new coach Darren Abdilla won his eighth game in the league. He unveiled new players, such as left-footed Thiaguinho and goaltender Christoffer Mafoumbi. Despite Floriana’s attacking effort, Tommaso Guidi of Tre Penne scored the first goal. But Thiaguinho, Dunstan Vella, and Kyrian Nwoko scored for Floriana right away to change the tide of play.

Yuri Messias’s goal for Marsaxlokk, which included a number of debutants including Nikola Raden, Lucas Lopez, and Jefferson, was enough to offset Partizani’s early lead. Igor Goularte failed to convert a crucial opportunity, and they squandered late opportunities to win.

The performances of Floriana and Marsaxlokk gave their respective Europa Conference League campaigns a good start.

Gareth Southgate To Remain England Manager After Euro

Jul 12 2024 Share

The Football Association wants Gareth Southgate to continue managing England until the World Cup in 2026, irrespective of the Euro final’s outcome this coming Sunday.

His current contract expires in December, but any decision to leave would be made well in advance, with England’s next set of fixtures scheduled for September.

There has been a growing sentiment that Southgate might step down after the Euros amid dissatisfaction from the fan base regarding his management. However, England’s run to the European Championship final in Berlin this Sunday, where they will face Spain, has reaffirmed the FA’s belief that Southgate is the best fit for the role.
