Man charged with raping partner’s 14-year-old daughter receives 8-year prison sentence

Dec 11 2021 Share

A 40-year-old individual has been granted an 8-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to charges of raping his partner’s 14-year-old daughter between October 2015 and August 2017. The man’s name has been withheld by court and has been charged with aggravated rape of a minor.

An Aġenzija Apoġġ worker shed light on the case after filing a report with the Vice Squad within the Malta Police Force, stating that an anonymous tip was sent in regarding a potential victim of sexual abuse. The man reportedly forced himself on the girl as she slept and did not deny his wrongdoing, stating that he regrets what he had done.

In November, a plea agreement was reached with the Attorney General with a request of an 8-year prison sentence should he admit to the charges. The accused plead guilty of his actions and admitted before the start of the trial.

Anyone over three must wear mask outdoors as rules clarified

Anyone over three must wear mask outdoors as rules clarified
Dec 10 2021 Share

After Health Minister Chris Fearne announced how mask wearing will be extended to all outdoor public places as of Saturday, the regulations were clarified and revealed that any person over the age of three is legally obligated to wear a mask outside.

Failure to comply could land the person a €100 fine. The new rules were published in a legal notice on Friday, hours before the regulation comes into effect.

The legislation which regulates the use of masks in public had the amendments was first introduced in August of last year. Previously, groups of two vaccinated people or kids under the age of twelve in the company of a vaccinated person could remove their masks when outdoors.

The rules highlight how removing your mask while on the beach or next to an indoor or outdoor swimming pool is not allowed.

The exceptions to outdoor mask wearing previously in place are still applicable. You can therefore remove your mask in public only when speaking to a person who relies on lip reading to communicate, during an official public speaking event provided there is two-meters distance and for identification purposes at banks, the airport or law enforcement officials.

They are also extended for when receiving a medical or cosmetic service involving face or mouth, taking medication, when seated an establishment with food and drinks served and when smoking a lit tobacco product.

What your favourite burger says about you

Dec 10 2021 Share

You can often decipher people’s character by the clothes the wear, the music they listen to and the food they eat. Taking a look at someone’s order at a restaurant will often tell you whether or not the person is adventurous in their decisions and more often than not, it applies to real life. Whether you’re a basic burger & bun kind of person or go for the triple stack with cheese, bacon and the works; this is what your favourite Burgers.Ink burger says about you.

Ultimate Cheese Burger

An old soul in essence, you are very much like the burger you order: reliable and authentic. You are as genuine as the burger’s 100% beef patty and tend to be a little bit extra on occasion, but that doesn’t stop the ones around you from turning to you time and time again. Beyond that, you are a go-to kind of person who is always the first one to call when trouble arises and people love you for that.

Hell’s Kitchen Burger

Spicy and adventurous; if you order this, you’re probably an adrenaline junkie who likes to live life on the edge. You can probably attribute the spring in your step to the burger’s Devil Sauce and Jalapeños but we’re sure you’re calm when you need to be. You have quite the temper but act fast on your actions, so like the Hell’s Kitchen Burger, people keep coming back for more every single time.

Guapo Burger

Easy-going at times but bold & loud at others, you are the literal life of the party, even though you’re probably always late to that party. Much like the Guacamole and Crispy Chorizo, you value balance over everything and probably work as hard as you play. Your Spotify is always pumping with music, and while sometimes it may be as cheesy as the Guapo Burger’s Mexican Cheese, you’re always vibing no matter where you are.

Avocado Burger

A misunderstood soul, you are the definition of don’t knock it until you try it. People often overlook you at first, but adore your very presence the moment they get to know you and feel like they’ve been missing out their entire life. You’re a vegan or vegetarian who feels like there isn’t enough food for you out there and indulge in the most comforting of comfort foods when you need it, and we’re not judging.

Truffle Burger & Black Duck Burger

Let’s face it, if you order one of these two burgers, you’re either artsy, extra or walk on the fine line between the two. You are a daring individual who constantly searches for what is different in life and the same goes for your burger choices. Whether you go for the truffle mayo-glazed marvel that is the truffle burger or for the posh-but-beastly Black Duck Burger, you are very particular in how you operate but a fan favourite nonetheless.

Which one’s YOUR favourite?

I encourage people not to smoke, but it’s their decision – Chris Fearne

I encourage people not to smoke, but it’s their decision - Chris Fearne

‘As a person and as a doctor, I always encourage people not to drink or smoke. But at the end of the day, it is their decision to make, and the same applies to cannabis’ said Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne.

Speaking at the launch of a mental health initiative to create a home treatment crisis team, the health minister opened up about his opinion when sharing concerns of other doctors on the reform.

He said that the public needs the right material to mark informed decisions within the law’s parameters.

The reform will allow people to possess up to 7g of the drug without criminal sanction. The reform will also allow people to grow up to 4 cannabis plants at home and buy it from regulated clubs. The bill awaits a final vote in parliament on Tuesday.

This follows an urgent request submitted by the Opposition Party to discuss an anti-cannabis petition which proposes several changes to the current Bill.
