Maltese youngster Lucas Caruana has reportedly agreed to a deal to join Serie A side Sampdoria. Caruana has been attracting interest from numerous clubs around Europe, but it was the Blucerchiati who managed to sway the local player to sign with them.
The local talent will fly to Italy this Wednesday and will form part of the primavera (youth) team of Sampdoria.
Throughout last season, and even before that, the young midfielder has had various trials with many European clubs such as Portuguese teams Boavista, SC Braga and fellow Italian teams AC Monza and AS Roma.
These past couple of weeks have been very good for Caruana as, just last week, he made his Champions League debut for boyhood club Hibernians. He came on in the dying minutes of the game as the Paolites were unfortunately losing 3-0. Last season also saw him make his BOV Premier League debut in Hibernian’s final match against Gżira United.
His outstanding talents have also been noted by Maltese national coach Devis Mangia who has invited the dynamic midfielder to training sessions with the senior team on numerous occasions.
