Sep 5 2024 Share

Nineteen-year-old forward Kian Leonardi has officially signed with Italian club Fermana, following an impressive Maltese Premier League debut season with Pieta Hotspurs in Malta. His performances last season earned him widespread recognition, paving the way for his move to Italy.

According to the popular football outlet Replay, Leonardi has been training with the Serie D side for several weeks and has already participated in some of their pre-season friendlies.

During these matches, the young Maltese attacker showcased his talent, scoring two goals and providing an assist in one game, and delivering another assist in a subsequent friendly. His impact on the pitch comes as no surprise to those who followed his performances in the Maltese leagues.

Leonardi’s move to Italy was facilitated by the sports management company, Sports Pro Management & Consultancy, which has been instrumental in securing opportunities for Maltese players abroad.

This includes other high-profile transfers, such as Yannick Yankam’s move to Lexington SC in the United States and Haley Bugeja’s notable transfer to Italian champions Inter Milan. Leonardi’s success in making the leap to Fermana further highlights the growing international recognition of Maltese football talent.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Not Ballon D’Or Nominees For First Time In Over 20 Years

Sep 5 2024 Share

For the first time in over 20 years, neither Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi have been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or trophy which crowns the best performing football player of the year.

To be exact the last time the Ballon d’Or nominee list did not feature the two football superstars, was way back in 2003 when Czech midfielder Pavel Nedvěd won it.

Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi no longer play in Europe, with the Portuguese representing Saudi club Al-Nassr and the Argentinian plying his trade with American side Inter Miami in the MLS.

It’s been just a year since Messi claimed his 8th Ballon d’Or, highlighting the significance of competing in Europe’s top leagues for these awards. Now, not only will he be unable to defend his title, but he also won’t even have the opportunity to do so.

As a new wave of football superstar emerges, the favourittes for this year’s Ballon d’Or are undoubtedly Spanish holding midfielder Rodri, tekky Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr and British global superstar Jude Bellingham.
