The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Camilleri, the Malta goalkeeper, netting the vital goal.

In a daring move, Camilleri abandoned his goalpost to join his teammates in attack, seizing an opportunity from a rebound following a freekick. Earlier in the week, Malta suffered a 1-0 defeat to Albania, with Prendi Denis scoring the lone goal.

After Frederik Tosku opened the scoring for Albania in the 18th minute, Malta’s Sven Xerri leveled the score with 15 minutes remaining in the second half.

Despite tensions rising when Albania was awarded a penalty in the final minute of regular time, Malta appeared destined for another defeat as Albania capitalized on the rebound, seemingly securing victory.

However, in a thrilling turn of events, during the fifth minute of injury time, a Malta freekick posed a final opportunity. Camilleri, having ventured forward, seized the moment, smashing the ball into the net, sealing a memorable draw for Malta.
