Maltese Sharon Mizzi heads to LA to work as TikTok sales coordinator

Young Sharon Mizzi has just announced that she has become a sales coordinator at social media giant TikTok, joining the global business solutions team at the Los Angeles office. Mizzi graduated from the University of Malta with a B. Communications (Honours) with Computer Information Systems and then went on to get a Communication Management masters degree from the University of Southern California. And all her hard work and study paid off as she joins one of the world’s fastest growing phone apps.

The app surpassed 1 billion users, becoming immensely popular with users of all ages – from kids to teens to even elderly jumping onto the app to share and laugh and learn. Now Sharon gets to contribute to the app’s growth, pitching in her expertise and knowledge. Well done Sharon for this massive step and we wish you the best of luck on your career!

AC Milan lose out to Atletico in last few minutes of the game

Last night, AC Milan played their first Champions League match at San Siro for the first time in 7 years. However the score line wasn’t what the Rossoneri wanted in such an important match, as they lost 2-1 to Atletico conceding the last two goals in the last 5 minutes. Ironically the last Champions League match AC Milan played at the San Siro was also against Atletico Madrid, back in 2014 losing 1-0. Both teams were searching for a good result after a disappointing 1st matchday.

The first 30 minutes was all Milan, they were playing with a very high intensity but didn’t seem like gassing out. They weren’t letting the Atletico Madrid attackers through on goal and bossing the possession as well. It was a perfect start for AC Milan so much so that Rafael Leão scored in the 20th minute sending the San Siro to a flurry of celebrations. The celebrations were stopped only 10 minutes after the goal as midfield general Franck Kessié got himself sent off after getting a second yellow card. The first half ended with Milan still in the lead, but now playing more defensively since they were a man down.

In the second half Atletico were more confident and were attacking more trying to overturn the 1 goal deficit. Atletico were creating a lot of chances but weren’t converting them with Luis Suarez having a very average performance in front of goal. All that changed when Diego Simeone decided to get on Antoine Griezmann and João Félix. Antoine and João changed the game for Atletico, and in the 84th minute Antoine Griezmann scored a wonderful volley to equalize the game.

As everyone thought that the game was done in the 95th minute the Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir whistled to the Milan spot and awarded Atletico Madrid a last gasp penalty. The penalty was very dubious as no one was really sure if it hit the Thomas Lemar’s hand before Milan defender Pierre Kalulu’s hand. The decision went in the favour of Atletico which led to Luis Suarez finally scoring his first Atletico Champions League goal off the spot.

Milan’s next game will be a trip to Portugal to face Porto whilst Atletico will welcome Liverpool to Madrid.

Education Ministry allegedly calls teacher’s partners in ‘data breach’

The Malta Union of Teachers filed a formal complaint with Malta’s data protection commissioner after the Education Ministry committed an alleged data breach. The MUT said it was clear that the ministry was ‘in a state of panic’ and resorted to calling teacher’s partners in order to update them about last-minute changes to the upcoming scholastic year. The MUT complained to the Data Protection Commissioner, saying that the ministry should not have any such access to these contacts.

As state schools open their doors for returning students, the MUT and the Education Ministry have been engaged in a dispute about shortage of teachers. The ministry has been called out by the union over last-minute transfers, peripatetic teachers being asked to teach classes they are unqualified for and even leaving classes allegedly without teachers. The situation, mainly caused by COVID-19 regulations, is still ongoing, with many worrying about the education kids are receiving.

Sex Education is doing what teens feel their educators never did

It’s no wonder that Netflix show ‘Sex Education’ blew up in terms of popularity. But its main appeal right now is how perfectly it weaves learning about relationships, sexuality and coming of age better than what many are saying their parents or educators ever did. Taking place in a fictitious town, the characters of the series tackle everything from coming out, dating away from heteronormativity and how to properly engage in sexual activity safely and consciously.

Social media, most prominently Twitter and Instagram, are blowing up with youth, and even some adults, praising the show for moving society forward. Outdated views about sex are being challenged with a newer intensity and as many struggle to figure out where they fit in the world, the show has provided a glimpse into how a sexual life can be healthy and fun. And although it should not become the primary substitute for proper education, many are calling for adults to take a page out of the series’ book and amend their approach.
