Maltese referee suspends match after assault by foreign footballer

Maltese referee suspends match after assault by foreign footballer
Oct 31 2021 Share

A post uploaded to social media alleges how Maltese referee CJ Saliba had to suspend a football match after he was assaulted by a foreign football player playing with Valletta Stars. The MAFA match, between the aforementioned Valletta Stars and Marsa St. Michaels was given a premature end due to physical assault enacted by the foreign player which resulted in Saliba ending up seriously injured and knocked out on the pitch.

The incident sparked much anger on social media, with one particular post uploaded by Anton Rea Cutajar, who outlined the incident. Cutajar then went on to ask why media houses were not reporting such an incident, taking it upon himself to do so. He expressed solidarity with Saliba and wished him a speedy recovery, but rhetorically asked: Report everything or report nothing… or do we not report it because this person is Maltese?’.

A statement by the football club later condemned the actions held by the football player, stating that as an organization it always discouraged such behavior on the pitch. ‘The committee of Valletta Stars has taken immediate action against the player and will be given an indefinite suspension’ it read. What do you make of this situation?

‘She was my friend’: Alec Baldwin breaks Rust incident silence

'She was my friend': Alec Baldwin breaks Rust incident silence
Oct 31 2021 Share

Following the horrific incident in which cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life after an accidental fatal gunshot from actor Alec Baldwin, the latter finally broke the silence by saying that; ‘She was [his] friend.’ The incident occurred on the set of a film, Rust, in new Mexico earlier this month, with the actor speaking to global news agency BackGrid in Vermont after he was photographed having lunch with his wife. ‘There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this’ he said. ‘This is a one-in-a-trillion episode/event.’

Baldwin, who was urged by his wife to stop speaking, allegedly said that he was setting things straight so that photographers would stop following his family and that he was ‘ordered’ by the sheriff’s department not to discuss the case. ‘A woman died. She was my friend. When I arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner’ he said. Baldwin also revealed that he was in constant contact with Hutchins’ husband and that he was very worried about the family.

Investigations alleged that there was ‘some complacency’ in how weapons were handled on the set, but it was too soon to determine if charges would be filed. County sheriff Adan Mendoza said that 500 rounds of ammunition – a mix of blanks, dummy rounds and suspected live rounds – were found. Baldwin himself said that he was told that the gun he was handed was safe. He also expressed interest in an ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on a set.

Will Smith talks mental health in new series trailer

Will Smith talks mental health in new series trailer
Oct 31 2021 Share

As the first trailer for Will Smith’s first ever docuseries drops, the ex-Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor reveals that he once considered taking his own life. In an emotional revelation, Smith has undergone the journey to lose 20lb in 20 weeks, finishing his memoir and achieving the best shape of his life, as the series is aptly titled. The quest for physical health brought with it other challenges, with Smith saying that ‘he ended up discovering a whole lot of hidden things about [him]self.’ It was all a battle of mental and emotional fortitude, as can be seen in many of Smith’s social media posts leading up to the series.

The 53 year-old opens up to his entire family about him considering taking his own life, but the moment which lead to him uttering this are still unclear. This is all preceded by Smith posting to Instagram a snapshot of what he deemed ‘his worst body shape’ – a body shape which got him through COVID-19 but he wished to change. The series’ first two episodes will premiere on Smith’s YouTube channel on November 8th, with the remaining four dropping daily thereafter.
