Five 24 Hour Endurance Races Set To Raise Money For Puttinu Cares

Aug 8 2024 Share

Four years ago, a promise was made to Rennie and Angele to undertake an extreme event in support of Puttinu Cares. Now, that promise is becoming a reality. This year and next, Justin Mifsud will participate in five 24-hour solo endurance races to raise funds for Puttinu Cares, a charity dedicated to supporting families and individuals facing serious health challenges.

The primary goal of these events is to generate financial support for Puttinu Cares, whose dedication to those in need is truly inspiring. However, this initiative goes beyond fundraising. It aims to educate people about sim racing and the broader world of esports. Often misunderstood as mere gaming, sim racing is a competitive and unifying platform that fosters friendship, learning, and community.

Justin Mifsud who works full-time in esports, prioritizes helping people understand the value and potential of gaming and esports. These races will also demonstrate the dedication, commitment, and physical and mental training required to undertake such challenges. Sim racing involves immense stamina, focus, and discipline, showcasing that esports athletes are just as hardworking as traditional sports competitors.

Teams of 2 to 5 drivers are invited to join the event, either from home or World Pro Racing’s facility at Montekristo Estate. The race will be held on the iRacing platform using the GT3 class. Donations can be made through SMS and during the live broadcast, with all proceeds going directly to Puttinu Cares.

The first event kicks off on Saturday, September 7th, with qualifying at 12:00 and the race starting at 13:00, ending at 13:00 on Sunday, September 8th. Mifsud will live stream the entire race from World Pro Racing’s studios.

Justin Mifsud extends his thanks to the sponsors and volunteers supporting this initiative. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Women Carry Iconic Statue of Our Lady Of Pompeii At Marsaxlokk Festa

Aug 8 2024 Share

For yet another year, local women from Marsaxlokk have gone through with the tradition of carrying the town’s iconic Our Lady of Pompeii statue.

This unique tradition is done every year and rarely seen in any of the other various Maltese town festas.

There is no exact written reason why and when the tradition started but it is said that this gesture from these women from Marsaxlokk is a sort of thankyou to the Our Lady of Pompeii for protecting their husbands who would be out at sea fishing.

The Marsaxlokk feast like many other local fests takes place in the opening days of August and normally includes massive celebrations on the local streets celebrating Our Lady of Pompeii.

French Athlete Proposes To Boyfriend After Olympics Race

French Athlete Proposes To Boyfriend After Olympics Race
Aug 8 2024 Share

French athlete Alice Finot capped off her remarkable Olympic performance on Tuesday evening with a surprise proposal to her boyfriend, who was cheering her on from the stands.

The 33-year-old runner had just finished fourth in the 3000m steeplechase final, narrowly missing out on a medal but setting a new European record with a personal best time of 8:58.67. Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi claimed gold, while Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai took silver and Kenya’s Faith Cherotich earned bronze.

After her record-breaking run, Finot celebrated by sprinting over to the stands and dropping to one knee in front of her partner, fellow athlete Bruno Martínez Bargiela. Overcome with emotion, Bargiela wiped away a tear before leaning down to embrace her.

“I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and we’ve been together for nine years, I would propose,” Finot explained to reporters. “I don’t like following the crowd. Since he hadn’t proposed yet, I thought it might be up to me.”

Instead of a ring, she proposed with a pin that read “love is in Paris.” Finot later confirmed with a smile that he had indeed said “yes.”
