As of April 2nd, 2025, Maltese nationals will be obliged to fill in an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before travelling to the United Kingdom.
Even though no VISA is required, this applies to stays of up to 180 days, and costs £10. The ETA will be valid for 2 years, with applications opening as of March 5th of this year (tomorrow).
Travellers do not need an ETA if they have a visa; have permission to live, work and/or study in the UK; are transiting through a UK airport but will not pass through border control; are a British or Irish citizen; are travelling with a British overseas territories passport; and other specific instances.
People cannot stay in the UK for longer than 6 months with an ETA, do paid or unpaid for a UK company or as a self-employed person, claim public funds/benefits, live through frequent/successive visits, or marry or register a civil partnership. Find out more here.
