As the new Lord of the Rings series ‘The Rings of Power’ is set for an Amazon September premiere, a Maltese makeup artist’s take on one of the characters took social media by storm.

Henry Galea, known for his TikTok and Instagram videos bringing characters to life, was asked by Prime Video’s team to create one of the iconic designs for the malicious race of orcs in the series.

Galea’s talent was picked up whilst he was involved with the ACM Awards in Las Vegas. They promptly urged him not to post any Rings of Power related content before they reached out to him to ask him to create one of the many designs.

After some tweaking and a lot of creative work, Galea’s design was released to the world and promptly featured on posters shown worldwide. Following strict guidelines, Galea had came up with a design for what is the next massive instalment in the J.R.R Tolkien adaptations.

Amazon bought the TV rights for The Lord of the Rings for around $250 million in 2017, committing to a five season worth at least $1 billion. This makes it the most expensive television series ever made.

Everything you need to know about the game of Keno

Everything thing you need to know about the game of Keno
Aug 8 2022 Share

Keno is a classic lottery game, it is simple to play. Here are just a few of the vital facts you should know before getting to grips with the game.

After all bets have been placed, 20 numbers are then drawn randomly using balls from a machine or a random number generator. Players must place bets by choosing numbers that are usually listed between 1 and 80. Players win if their numbers are drawn.

To the untrained eye, Keno and Bingo can be easily confused. Essentially, in both games players must try and match their own numbers with a set of winning numbers. However, there are key differences.

In the vast majority of Keno games, players are allowed to choose their own numbers. In Bingo, players are given cards with pre-selected numbers. The bet value is also more flexible in Keno. Bingo only allows you to purchase cards for a set price. Keno wins can produce instant millionaires, so when somebody strikes it lucky on the game it can make headlines across the globe.

What is the story behind the game?

It is believed that Keno has origins that can be traced back to the Han Dynasty in China over 3,000 years ago. The word Keno comes from French and Latin, roughly translating as five winning numbers.

The world’s first draw was inspired by the “Thousand Character Classic” – a Chinese poem containing 1,000 unique characters each used just once. By taking the first 80 characters of the poem, and carving them into individual woodblocks, a warlord named Cheung Leung came up with a game of chance that forms the foundation of modern-day Keno.

Knowing that you “can’t win if you don’t play,” Han citizens played with such passion that Leung soon solved his dynasty’s money problems. Back then the lucky winner was awarded prizes such as livestock, tools, and other necessities in abundance.

There is also an epic legend that surrounds the inception of Keno. The story has it that the game was responsible for saving a city from falling during a war. It has also been credited with raising funds to build the Great Wall of China.

During the 19th century, the Chinese derivative of the word Keno was “white dove ticket”. This was due to results of the games hosted in the big cities were transferred to smaller villages far away by carrier pigeon.

As the game became more popular in China, it was played using characters on sheets of paper as opposed to numbers. The game finally made the leap from China to the western world when Chinese immigrants travelled across the Pacific Ocean to the US to construct the First Transcontinental Railway.

Keno’s popularity increased rapidly and by 1866 the game was hugely popular across the US in its current form that we recognise today.

Skin cancer has doubled over the past two years; Intersport’s SUMMERSKIN campaign urges you to stay safe and offers free bottle of sunscreen.

Get a FREE bottle of sunscreen with purchases over €75 at Intersport Malta

Now that we’re at summer’s peak, it’s quite easy to understand how difficult it is to be out and about whilst protecting yourself from the scorching sun.

Getting from point A to point B is already difficult enough, let alone trying to take care of the summer body you worked so hard for; which is why Intersport’s Summer Skin campaign deserves a checking out.

The local sports brand believes that physical activity should not be a seasonal engagement but something which should be maintained throughout the entire year.

Sports enthusiasts invest heavily in regular workouts & a healthy lifestyle but, given the circumstances, must balance them with adequate knowledge of skin protection in the summer conditions. Throughout the years, the incidence of malignant melanoma (a form of skin cancer) in Malta has increased, with one in eight diagnosed people dying as a result.

In fact, this form of skin cancer has doubled over the past two years; making now more important than ever to start taking care of your skin.

According to the latest WHO data published in 2020, Skin Cancer Deaths in Malta reached 14, or 0.43%, of total deaths. As of 2018, one in eight people diagnosed with skin cancer in Malta die of the disease.

Going further back, up to 87 people died of primary melanoma between 2007 and 2016. Despite being curable if caught on early, lack of awareness leads to the cancer spreading before it can be properly treated.

That’s why Intersport Malta do not only offer training gear which is ideal for summer activities, but are offering free sunscreen with purchases over €75. What could be more encouraging to train in summer?

Tag a sports enthusiast!
