More often than not, we take Malta’s creative capabilities for granted and fail to appreciate the creative minds our islands have to offer and Yana Azzopardi is definitely one of them.

The local jeweller took to Instagram to share that her works were featured on the June edition of British Vogue magazine alongside multiple international jewel designers, welcoming a flood of supportive and encouraging comments from her followers.

The magazine highlighted the family history inspiring Yana’s Jewellery and praised the ‘stand-out bold and vibrant bespoke pieces’ and we can’t say we disagree.

In response to a question made by Net News regarding the recently-proposed abortion decriminalisation bill, President George Vella has stated that he is willing to resign if Maltese law allows abortion to happen in Malta.

The President stated that he never signed off on any laws authorising murder and to this day, he stands by his position, going on to state that if the bill passes, he is at liberty to ‘resign and head home’.

The president concluded his statement by saying there is no middle-ground when it comes to this issue, “if you are killing you are killing, if you don’t you don’t, no ifs, ands or buts.”

4 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 15 recoveries

Malta has registered 4 new case of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 1,541 swab tests, while 15 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Sunday 16th March 2021, 424,325 vaccine doses were administered of which 284,395 were 1st doses. 143,487 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 30,484 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 29,920 have recovered, 417 died and 158 are still active.

WATCH: PN proposes free contraception and morning-after-pill for over-16s

Nationalist Party and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has stated that if elected, a PN Government will provide free contraception and morning-after-pill to citizens aged over 16 in an attempt to reduce demand for abortion.

 

In a string of recent Tweets, Grech stated that the PN is ‘in favour of adopting all measures necessary to provide the best possible sexual health services; without endangering the lives of unborn children’.

Grech maintained his stance against MP Marlene Farrugia’s abortion criminalisation bill stating that “life has value from conception till death” and went on to state the he wants to listen to women and the challenges they face when seeking abortions.
