From August 23rd to 25th, Maltese Top Fuel Drag Racing driver Duncan Micallef competed at the Hockenheim Ring in Germany for the 4th round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, thrilling over 40,000 spectators.

Earlier in Sweden, Micallef delivered a record-breaking performance at the Tierp Arena, setting a personal best of 3.79 seconds and a European speed record of 321.4 MPH. This placed him at the top of the championship standings with 170 points.

Despite the excitement, the Hockenheim weekend was tough. Micallef posted on social media, saying, “It wasn’t an easy weekend. A lot of tension, and I admit that the fewer the cars we are, the harder it is. Meaning there is no room for mistakes at all.”

He thanked his crew and RFMotorsport, inviting them to join him for the final event in November at the Halfar Dragstrip in Malta. Micallef remains focused on the upcoming championship decider at Santa Pod Raceway.

He also wished his son, Jacob Micallef, good luck for his demanding three weeks of kart racing in the UK, saying, “Stay strong, Jacob. Whatever happens.”

Representing Malta at the highest levels of motorsport, both father and son are determined to prove that, despite Malta’s size, they can compete with the best.

Prime Minister Robert Abela Denies Instructing Police Officers

Aug 26 2024 Share

In a statement released by the Labour Party in response to a report published earlier today where it was alleged that Prime Minister Robert Abela had instructed certain Police Officers not to interrogate individuals involved in the magisterial inquiry concerning the Vitals Global Healthcare and Steward Healthcare concession.

The Prime Minister, however, categorically and absolutely denies ever issuing such instructions, calling the report malicious.

The Party stated that decisions regarding who is to be interrogated or brought before a criminal court are exclusively within the authority of the Executive Police and the Attorney General and alleged that the Prime Minister was completely uninvolved in these decisions and did not interfere with the functions of these institutions in any way.

The statement also shared that reportedly under leadership of Robert Abela, Malta has implemented a series of reforms focused on enhancing the rule of law, with an emphasis on ensuring that various institutions operate independently and without external influence.

These reforms have also been acknowledged by European institutions, with the European Commission’s latest report highlighting notable improvements and progress in this area.
