Maltese CPD Officers Return Safely Home From Greece

The 20 Civil Protection Department firefighters who were deployed to Greece earlier in July have safely returned home after their mission to extinguish raging wildfires. 

Images shared by Civil Protection Malta show the firefighters reuniting with their loved ones as they walk back home through Malta International Airport’s arrivals. 

The firefighters were aiding as part of the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid mechanism. Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri also welcomed the officers, after having been present to their send-off earlier in July. 

Their training, Chief Assistance Rescue Officer Michel Galea had said, will prove highly informative for their work back in Malta, having faced various challenges that prepared them for much more intense situations.

Zendaya’s Official Tribute To Late Co-Star Angus Cloud

Following the shocking announcement of the passing of Euphoria star Angus Cloud, co-star and world-famous actress Zendaya took to Instagram to issue her official tribute to her close friend. 

“Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor). I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it)”.

She went on to say that Angus really embodied the phrase ‘lighting up any room they entered’, 

“I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment.”

She went on to say that her heart is with his mother and family, urging everyone to be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone.

Footage which has resurfaced from nine months ago, and shared by @newsbook.com.mt, shows a construction incident which could have easily killed a terrified mother and her two children. 

Charmaine, the mother, exits the building after material from the scaffolding collapses onto her house’s facade. Charmaine can be heard telling the workers how this could have easily killed her and her children.

She revealed to Newsbook that construction work resumed as if nothing had happened, expressing how they are afraid to stay inside the house but also to go outside. 

“We’re scared of every sound we hear, and I think there are a lot of people like me, especially mothers trying to raise children, young children next to buildings like this.”

This comes after Jean Paul Sofia’s mother Isabelle Bonnici’s pressure, along with activists, changed the government’s decision to lead a magisterial inquiry into the death of her son, who died in a building collapse.
