Dancer, choreographer and The MVMT director Cheryl Lofreda has just been part of a huge concept video for the song Madonna by Apache 207 and Bausa. The barrier breaking and woman empowering dance video was created, directed and choreographed by international Choreographer and performing artist Mecnun Giasar with film director Henry Scholfield. Artistic credits also include the likes of Billie Eilish, Stormzy, Dua Lipa and Rosalia among others. Co-Choreograhper on this project was Natalie Gilmore, whose artistic credit includes Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Jason Derulo and Selena Gomez among others.

The idea behind the movement video is to redefine what the ideal definition of beauty really is by including various artists from around the world. The song itself hit #1 on Spotify charts, and refers to a woman that dances like Madonna. Mecnun’s idea was to bring all these women together to produce a movement oriented film.

Cheryl Lofreda, the Maltese dancer participating in this international project, commented on her experience; ‘Honestly this was really unexpected.’ After having to postpone a show at the Manoel Theatre, she received a phone call from Mecnun Giasar who ‘explained the job and explained the importance of the message behind the video.’

’30 beautiful women from all over the world united in 1 studio to form part of this perspective-changing project. Every morning we were getting tested before starting our rehearsals so that we could practice in a safe environment’ said Cheryl. ‘I believe that with our Art forms we can always make a difference… Believe more, have patience & work hard and you’ll see that things will start to change for you.’
