Maltese basketball starlet Sophie ABela, together with her Otero Junior College team, celebrated a monumental, streak-breaking win over The Lady Thunderbirds on Saturday evening.

Abela successfully set up the game-winning lay-up after an assistive bounce pass to team-mate Emma Florez Pascual after an intense tied-up game with only 35 seconds left on the clock.

Thanks to Abela and her team’s efforts, OJC will advance to the National Junior College Athletics Association Division I Championship in Texas.

Chris Fearne predicts herd immunity by end of June for Malta

Chris Fearne predicts Herd Immunity by end of June for Malta
Apr 10 2021 Share

Addressing a press conference this morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne announced that Malta could very well reach herd immunity by the end of June and not September as had been previously planned. Fearne emphasised the efficacy of the vaccine rollout programme, with 237,806 vaccine doses administered up until today. The original plan by Health Authorities was to vaccinate 80% of over 80s vaccinated by end of March.

The expectations were however surpassed as 95% of the age group had received the jab by target date. Fearne stated that by the end of this month, all the over 60s will have been vaccinated, with 50s being vaccinated with first dose by third week of May should the progress continue.

Moviment Graffiti suspend direct action protest in Dingli

Moviment Graffiti suspend direct action protest in Dingli
Apr 10 2021 Share

Moviment Graffiti Andre Callus has stated at a press conference this morning that the organisation will be suspending its direct action to stop roadworks in Dingli. Having camped out for around three weeks in a field which Infrastructure Malta plans to build a new road, the activists said that the direct action will be ending but that they will still monitor the situation closely.

The decision followed a meeting held earlier this week between activists, residents and farmers with IM CEO Fredrick Azzopardi and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg. The activists insisted that the plans by Infrastructure Malta be made public and stated that had they not intervened, the plans would have uprooted the carob trees in the area.
