Maltese athletes deservedly celebrate historic win at GSSEs

After a week of broken records, gold medal achievements and Malta’s first ever Games of the Small States of Europe victory, the island’s athletes were spotted deservedly celebrating their efforts.

Short videos posted by Maltese athlete and gold medal recipient Luke Bezzina show a large crowd of athletes revelling festival-style in Valletta, with the following video showing Malta’s representatives come together in elation on their bus.

This year Malta put on quote a show at the Small States Games, with a record-amount of gold medals and the country’s first overall win. With a major turnout at the GSSE’s free games and a deserved celebration after the event closed, the future looks bright for Malta’s athletes.

Malta secured 38 gold medals, 30 silver and 29 bronze in all. With a total of 97 medals in five days, Maltese athletes put on a show of athletic skill and determination, defeating fierce competition like Cyprus and Luxembourg to land their country’s first GSSE victory.

After a stellar campaign at the Games of the Small States of Europe, videos of Malta’s athletes are being spread across social media and you can really feel the emotion.

Amongst other clips, one video that truly captures the emotion of the island’s athletes and supporters is that of Malta’s athletics team, moments before they secured gold at the Men’s Relay 4×100. Fan-taken videos effectively capture the crowd’s elation as athlete Luke Bezzina receives the baton and bolts in front of his competition.

Following the games, Bezzina took to social media with a snap of himself in action, with the photo captioned: “Fall down seven times, stand up eight. That’s what it’s all about.” Bezzina went on to tag his team mates Beppe Grillo, Graham Pellegrini and Gaetano Di Franco.

This year, Malta won the Games of the Small States of Europe for the first time ever, securing 38 gold medals, 30 silver and 29 bronze. With a total of 97 medals in five days, Maltese athletes put on a show of athletic skill and determination, defeating fierce competition like Cyprus and Luxembourg to land their country’s first GSSE victory.

Los Angeles County may start charging drivers using its free way in an attempt to tackle its traffic congestion.

Inspired by cities like London, Stockholm, Singapore, and Milan, the LA Metro Transportation Authority is considering implementing “Congestion Pricing” – a program where drivers would pay tolls to access freeways. The aim is to control traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve air quality in a city plagued by gridlock.

Los Angeles, much like Malta, suffers from severe traffic issues that hinder productivity and cause environmental concerns. By introducing priced tolls on certain freeways, “Congestion Pricing” would incentivise alternative transportation methods and carpooling, aiming to alleviate the city’s notorious traffic problems.

While the concept of paying for freeway access may be controversial, supporters argue that it is a necessary step towards reclaiming Los Angeles from its suffocating traffic chaos. The program has proven successful in other cities, leading to reduced congestion and cleaner air.

As LA County explores this innovative solution, further debates and discussions are expected to unfold. Concerns about the impact on low-income drivers and potential backlash from the driving community will need to be addressed.

Sweden declare sex as sport; to host ‘European Sex Championship’

Sweden has made a bold declaration, officially recognising sex as a sport and unveiling the “European Sex Championship.”

The competition will feature sex sessions of up to six hours, pushing the boundaries of physical endurance and celebrating the art of connection. Commencing on June 8th, the championship will span six weeks, attracting participants from across Europe. Couples will engage in sessions which will test their chemistry, knowledge, and stamina.

While critics may argue about the blurring of lines between sports and intimate experiences, proponents of this move believe that embracing sex as a sport promotes a healthy and open dialogue about sexuality, consent, and sexual well-being. Sweden’s bold declaration challenges societal norms and encourages a broader discussion on pleasure and personal connections.

Of course, people didn’t hold back from reacting on social media, with some applauding the decision as forward-thinking and encouraging discussion whilst others joked at the fact that sex could soon become an Olympic sport.
