Touching Christmas 2022 ad raises awareness about foster kids

Touching Christmas 2022 ad raises awareness about foster kids
Nov 10 2022 Share

The John Lewis Christmas advert ahead of the 2022 festive season aims at raising awareness about children in foster care – and boy, you better have tissues ready.

The advert was teased with the title of ‘The Beginner’, and is set to Blink-182’s ‘All the Small Things’.

It follows a keen older man trying to learn how to skateboard. After lots of trial and error, and accidents, the man manages to get some tricks up his sleeve.

But the kicker comes in at the end when the reason why he is learning the sport is revealed. The man gets the hang of it just in time for the arrival of the couple’s foster child who also loves skateboarding.

John Lewis said it understood that not all foster carers had the benefit of knowing who they would be looking after in advance and that its broader campaign also featured “authentic voices of carers” and “young people with different experiences of a complex care system”.
