Malta’s very own Santa Claus turns 80 years old

Albert McCarthy, who is known locally for dressing up as the beloved Christmas mascot Santa Claus, has just hit 80 years old – and he’s still going strong and bringing smiles to kids all over the island.

Taking to social media, McCarthy celebrated his special day saying that he feels ‘so blessed by all the gifts’ God bestowed on him and his loved ones.

McCarthy is married to Lina and is the father to three sons, and has become a staple figure every time Christmas time rolls around on the island.

His uncanny resemblance to the character has worked well for him to pull off the dress up as the cookie-and-milk loving jolly Father Christmas.

Aidan and Amber release official song for GSSE: Shine Your Light

The official song for the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe, set to be held in Malta, has just been released – and it is sung by local singers and songwriting sensations Aidan and Amber.

The duo came together to bring the official anthem for the games as anticipation builds up for the sporting events to be held in around one month.

The song, composed by Elton Zarb and Amber herself, was unveiled during a press conference in which Sports Minister Clifton Grima spoke about the importance of these games for Malta.

Minister Grima said that these games will not only continue to place Malta on the map of sport, but it will be the occasion wherein our country’s athletes will get to execute their training and the investment put into them.

Meanwhile, the experience will be an enriching one for the volunteers participating as they will contribute to the enriching of sport and movement on the island.

The press conference was also addressed by Chief Executive of Sport Malta Mark Cutajar as well as the President of the Maltese Olympic Committee Julian Pace Bonello.

19 year old Maltese dancer offered job at Disneyland Paris

19-year-old Elisa Cassar, a dancer from Malta, will be heading to Paris in a few days to join a cohort of dancers at Disneyland Paris after acing her auditions earlier this month!

From competing in international competitions such as YAGP (Youth America Grand Prix) and GDO (Global Dance Open) and attending several courses, both internationally and locally, Cassar’s next step will see her performing at the world renowned theme park.

The audition was around 7 hours long, but Cassar managed to get the gig and despite going up against dancers from all over the world, including Brazil, Bali and Greece.

Receiving a direct phone call to get the contract details down, Cassar told MaltaDaily how she had to overcome a lot of obstacles to achieve her dream.

She opened up about how she had to miss a lot of social activities, in the process losing a lot of friends, and even being discouraged by some individuals. All this whilst juggling her studies to eventually become a physiotherapist.
