Malta’s U-21 Bag 1-1 Draw In Friendly Against Estonia

Malta U-21 began their new era under coach Davide Mazzotta with a 1-1 draw against Estonia in a friendly, preparing for their European Championship qualifiers.

Mazzotta, previously with the senior squad, implemented a familiar three-man defence to ensure tactical continuity.

Estonia controlled possession early, but Malta remained compact and counterattacked when possible.

Andy Borg came close to scoring before Karel Mustmaa, a Benfica player, broke the deadlock for Estonia.

Malta responded quickly, with Keyon Ewurum heading in from a corner.

Both teams exchanged chances, with Mustmaa hitting the woodwork and Malta’s defence holding firm.

Despite Estonia’s late pressure, Malta held on for a draw and build up steam for their upcoming commitments.

Majority Disagree With Maltese 17 Year Olds Getting A License

We asked YOU, our followers, what you thought about 17 year olds in Malta, being eligible to get their license.

This forms part of a proposal by the European Union that would allow the age group to obtain a driving license, provided they drive under supervision until they turn 18.

The proposal would be non-binding, meaning that each EU country would decide whether or not to adopt it.

Still, when we asked our followers whether or not they thought Maltese 17 year olds should be able to get their license, the majority responded in the negative.

Out of around 570 respondents, over 490 responded with a no.

Many said that this initiative would only go against attempts to mitigate traffic as well as pollution.

Young Mayor About Bikes & Motors As Traffic Alternatives

Appearing on ‘Awla’, young mayor of Ħaż-Żebbuġ Steve Zammit Lupi spoke about how, despite being 29 years old, he still does not own a car and how this has impacted – or rather, improved – his commuting abilities.

Zammit Lupi explained that he got his driving license at 18 but decided to not buy a car, saying that he would have to justify his buying of a car through its use.

This, he said, would lead him to commute everywhere with it, waste time in traffic and searching for parking, and contributing to the problem.

Instead, he opted for a bicycle and a motorbike, and travels everywhere with them. The young mayor explained that if the opportunities and infrastructure were available to help bike and motorbike users in their commutes, the traffic situation in Malta would greatly improve.

This comes as the government announces several options being considered to tackle the issue, with one of them being awarding €25,000 for anyone who gives up their license.
