Malta Tourism Authority have published a list of localities and streets defined as ‘Tourist Areas’ for the purposes of S.L. 623.08.
Demolition and excavation works will be prohibited in selected tourist areas between 15 June and 30 September 2025. This initiative, coordinated between the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), addresses the inconvenience that construction sites cause to nearby residences and hotels.
The enforcement of Subsidiary Legislation 623.08 (Third Schedule 1c) is one way to mitigate the disruption that construction sites cause both to the tourism industry and to the number of Maltese families living in these areas. The demolition and excavation phases at construction sites are particularly disruptive to the surrounding residences.
Any illegal demolition or excavation work carried out between 15 June and 30 September 2025, in the identified localities and roads, may be reported to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on the number 138, for both Malta and Gozo, during and outside office hours.
The Malta Tourism Authority is the competent authority responsible for identifying the localities and roads where demolition or excavation works are not permitted. The Malta Tourism Authority reserves the right to amend or change the list of roads as it deems necessary
Any demolition and excavation works carried out between the 15th June and the 30th September 2025, in the identified localities and streets, may be reported to the Building and Construction Authority on 138 for both Malta & Gozo, during & after office hours or email [email protected].
