Malta’s Population Up By 4.2% By End Of 2022 With Over 542,000 People

According to the data revealed by the National Statistics Office, Malta and Gozo’s estimated total population stood at 542,051 by the end of 2022.

This means that the country’s total population was up by 4.2% when compared to the previous year, driven by a total net migration of 21,798 persons.

Third country nationals made up 83.1 per cent of the total net migrants in 2022, with 65.8% of this sample being men.

The natural increased reaching the lowest value over the past 15 years, at 79, the result of 4,309 resident live births and 4,230 resident deaths in the reference year.

The NSO also revealed that, by the end of 2022, nearly 53% of total residents were male. An accumulated 15.1% of the entire population was under the age of 18 while 18.6% was aged 65 and over.

Hospice Malta Raises €462,839 During ‘Bl-Imħabba Tiegħek Naslu’ Telethon

Hospice Malta, Malta’s leading provider of free palliative care services, successfully concluded its anticipated fundraising telethon, ‘Bl-Imħabba Tiegħek Naslu’, on the 9th July 2023. The event garnered overwhelming support from individuals, prominent figures, and organizations, resulting in a total of €462,839 raised.

The telethon was aimed at generating funds for the final stages of the St Michael Hospice project, which is soon nearing completion. This milestone development ensures that Hospice Malta will continue to deliver high-quality, cost-free palliative care services to thousands of patients and their families annually. Presently, the organization assists around 1,400 families, a number that continues to grow each year.

During the Telethon, Hospice Malta also organised guided tours of St Michael Hospice, giving the public the opportunity to see the sections of the facility that are now close to completion. The spacious complex will offer inpatient services and enhanced day therapy services, elevating Hospice Malta’s palliative community support.

Hospice Malta plays a vital role in providing support to patients battling various life-limiting illnesses, including cancer, motor-neuron disease, end-of-life respiratory, cardiac, renal, and liver diseases as well as Multiple Schlerosis and CJD.

Expressing her gratitude, Hospice Chairperson, Ms Bernadette Bonnici Kind, shared, “Every year, we wholeheartedly appeal to the public for their invaluable support. This year we will be realizing our dream of inaugurating St Michael Hospice together. Through this endeavour, we can continue offering comprehensive palliative care of the highest quality, to all families in need. We extend a sincere and profound thank you to all those who responded to our call by reaching out and supporting us through their contributions.”

An empty plot found between two developed buildings in Sliema caught fire on Sunday evening as a result of accumulated waste dumped by passers-by.

Footage sent to Malta Daily shows a considerable blaze and clouds of smoke emerge from the empty plot in Triq Ix-Xatt, Sliema.

The fire was reportedly caused by illegally-dumped wood, pallets, metal and other waste and could have been ignited by something as small as a cigarette or firework remnants.

Civil Protection Department Officials were on site within minutes to control the fire and no injuries were sustained.

Local television programme Liquorish be coming to an end this evening after 15 weeks of thrilling adventures, side-splitting laughs and tear-jerking moments.

The eight finalists’ journey will come to a bittersweet end this evening at 8:35PM on ONE TV, with the Liquorish Season 19 winner to be revealed towards the end of the programme.

The group’s adventures in Panama saw them travel far & wide, attempting to overcome one obstacle after another whilst attempting to put aside personal difference & individual difficulties.

With applications for Liquorish 2024 already open for individuals aged 18 and over, who knows what the future holds for potential Liquorish participants?
