24/7 Emergency Veterinary Services Launched
Jul 2 2025 Share

The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights has announced a new initiative aimed at improving emergency veterinary care across Malta and Gozo.

Following an evaluation of the current state of veterinary services, Minister Anton Refalo announced that the government has launched a scheme in collaboration with the Veterinary Surgeons Council to provide urgent care through licensed veterinary clinics.

These clinics will offer services outside regular hours, ensuring that animals receive the necessary treatment when most clinics are typically closed.

The emergency service will be available in three main regions: Gozo, northern Malta and southern Malta. Clinics in these areas will participate on a rotational basis.

Services will be offered nightly from 8:00pm to 8:00am, and throughout Sundays and public holidays. This setup will remain in place until the new Animal Hospital in Ta’ Qali begins full operations.

Through this scheme, pet owners will have access to 24/7 emergency veterinary care, supported by financial incentives for participating clinics.

The initiative aims to reduce animal suffering, ensure timely treatment and provide owners with reliable support in emergencies.

Interested clinics are encouraged to express their interest via the official website.
