Kinnie, Malta’s iconic soft drink, is now being produced in Ghana for the first time, marking the brand’s official entry into the African market.

This milestone was made possible through a strategic franchise partnership with Acadia Industries, a Ghanaian company experienced in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

The move introduces Kinnie’s distinctive herbal-infused flavour to Ghanaian consumers, with production adhering to the same recipe and quality standards that have defined the brand in Malta.

All manufacturing and distribution operations will be handled locally by Acadia Industries, with support from Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, Kinnie’s parent company.

“This is more than a product launch. It’s about investing in local capability and building a lasting partnership,” said Michael Farrugia, Deputy CEO (Beverage Business) at Simonds Farsons Cisk plc. He also highlighted Ghana’s appeal due to its dynamic market and strong appreciation for unique beverages.

Fouad Moufarrej, Managing Director of Acadia Industries, welcomed the collaboration, calling it a fusion of Mediterranean heritage and African energy.

He expressed confidence that Ghanaian consumers would respond positively.

Further expansion into other African countries is planned over the next few years, with the company seeking additional regional partners.

Alex Borg Outlines Motivation Behind Nationalist Party Leadership Candidacy
Jun 30 2025 Share

Nationalist Party leadership contender, Alex Borg has spoken publicly about his decision to enter the race following Bernard Grech’s resignation, despite concerns raised by those close to him.

In a video statement, Borg revealed that several individuals had advised against contesting, citing the difficult timing and potential personal risks. Some warned him, saying, “Alex se tinħaraq” (Alex, you’re going to get burned), while others urged him to wait for a more favourable moment.

However, Borg stated that the encouragement he received from others ultimately influenced his decision. Many expressed that the party needed new leadership immediately, rather than at a more convenient time.

“The easiest thing would have been to continue with my usual political work and focus on personal achievements,” he said. “But that’s not who I am. Ignoring the PN in a time of need would have been a betrayal of the people who placed their trust in me.”

Borg emphasised that he had long aspired to lead the Nationalist Party and only confirmed his candidacy after careful consideration. He explained that his final decision came when he shifted focus from personal interest to the wider needs of the party.

“Now, more than ever, we need fresh leadership driven by the energy of a new generation and a winning mentality to return to relevance and success,” Borg continued, “We have the necessary resources people with different strengths and what we need is a leader who can unite and lead them towards a common goal.”
