After having spent two years in preventive custody, alleged drug kingpin Jordan Azzopardi has been granted bail against a €150,000 personal guarantee. He is facing 15 charges, including trafficking heroin, cocaine and cannabis.

Azzopardi is the self-proclaimed Malta’s very own ‘El Chapo’, due to the large amount of drugs he has produced and his last-minute escapes. His escape came after he lost his pet dog and his posting on Facebook asking people for help set off a chain of events which according to One News led to his capture. Azzopardi’s girlfriend is also accused of similar charges, with Azzopardi being prohibited from approaching the coast or airport, ordered to deposit his passport, signing a bail book daily and observing a curfew.
