It was a paws-itively adorable scene in Dingli on Sunday 15th December as Malta’s dachshund community came together to break their own record for the largest gathering of sausage dogs on the island. Over 63 dachshunds strutted their festive stuff at Santa’s Train Ride, organised by Għaqda Talent Dingli – Ċentru għall-Arti u Kultura.

This quirky tradition has become a yearly highlight, with the group breaking their own record year after year. What started as a fun idea has grown into a heartwarming event that unites dog lovers and their furry companions in the festive spirit.

Decked out in Santa hats, reindeer ears, and even little elf outfits, the dachshunds were the stars of the show, spreading smiles and holiday cheer to everyone who attended. From tiny pups to seasoned veterans, the four-legged participants made it a day to remember.

As the train rolled through Rabat, it wasn’t just a festive ride — it was a wiener of a celebration! Here’s to next year’s record-breaking attempt — will they hit 70?

Malta’s Traditional Figolla was named one of the world’s best cookies on Taste Atlas’ “100 Best Cookies in the World” list!

Figolli were named amongst other world-famous cookies such as macarons, chocolate chip cookies and amaretti.

The figolla is described as a marzipan-filled cookie, decorated with icing or melted chocolate, shaped into lambs or bunnies due to its association to Easter time. Taste Atlas explain how traditionally, figolli were shaped as fish, baskets or women as this used to symbolise fertility.

Figolla is, and will surely always be a mainstay in Maltese pastry shops and kitchens during Easter, regardless of its exterior’s shape or decoration.

If you’ve been driving around Malta this weekend, you might have noticed something that made you chuckle amidst the usual honking and roundabout roulette.

Infrastructure Malta is taking the “traffic blues” and giving them a serious Christmas glow-up! With a touch of humour and plenty of festive spirit, new traffic signs are popping up across the island, and they’re the ultimate mix of practicality and holiday cheer.

One of the most eye-catching signs spotted reads, “He sees you when you’re speeding,” a cheeky reminder that not even Santa will forgive naughty drivers this season. Pair that with “Slow sleigh? Jingle to the left lane,” and you’ve got a gentle nudge to keep the flow of traffic merry and bright.

Let’s talk about the star of the show: the iconic Maltese holiday phrase, “Ol di best!” proudly plastered on another festive sign.

Social media is already lighting up with snapshots of these quirky signs, as drivers stop to take a photo (hopefully while parked!) and share the festive fun. Some are even calling for more signs featuring Maltese phrases like “Keep calm u Ġingle Bell.”

Whether it’s to spread a bit of holiday cheer or to remind us to keep our cool on the roads, this playful campaign is definitely making waves. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see more creative signs year-round — Easter bunnies directing traffic, perhaps?

Until then, keep your eyes on the road and your spirits high. After all, as Santa (or Infrastructure Malta) might say: “Drive safe, Ol di best!”
