Malta will be battered by rain and wind this week – and a storm!

According to various weather forecast reports, Malta is in for quite a stormy weekend, kicking off with a thundery rainstorm tomorrow Saturday 26th November.

According to ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ Facebook page, a thunder storm is expected for tomorrow following an entire week of observing local weather patterns forming around Sardinia.

Due to the weather pattern moving with quite a slow pace, the islands could face an entire day of heavy rain with even some flooding in the lower areas of the country.

According to the Malta International AIrport’s weather forecast, windy weather will also be starting tomorrow and stretching all the way to Tuesday.

North-easterly winds are expected to rise in speed to reach force 8. This is approximately 34-40 knots and are considered gale force winds. Caution is advised for all.

Domestic violence concerns everyone says Lydia Abela

Speaking during a press conference, wife of Prime Minister Robert Abela, Lydia Abela, addressed the recent brutal murder of Bernice Cassar.

Abela highlighted how despite all the hard work done by various authorities, domestic violence is still an ongoing threat to many, especially women.

She said that domestic violence concerns everyone, and that everyone has the right to love and be loved as well as the right to find the aid necessary when such cases emerge.

Abela kicked off a 16-day campaign of activism towards protection of women, awareness about domestic violence and the prevention of further femicide.

‘We do not want that Bernice and other victims are forgotten’ she said. ‘We saw a mother who woke up in the morning and prepared for a day’s work. However, she did not return home to her loved ones.’

Football in Malta could be played in Summer in near future

Several proposals being considered by the Malta Premier League for a revamp could see Maltese football matches played in the summer.

The MPL revealed a set of proposals currently in discussion by the 14 top clubs during a consultation meeting with stakeholders. One of the main changes could target the timeline of the Malta football calendar.

Premier League chairman Joseph Muscat said that the main aim behind the proposals is to try and turn the top-flight championship into a more competitive and attractive product.

The MPL plans on taking full control of the championship organisation as of the 2024-25 season, with two proposals on the number of teams that will compete on the table.

During the meeting, Muscat said that the 14 Premier League clubs unanimously agree that the season will be played between February and November.

He went on to say that the biggest challenge is how to use the various venues to accommodate the new calendar season. Two options are on the table: the first being a 4 month competition between clubs to determine European placings.

The other is an immediate transition with a four month competition which will also include Challenge League teams. MFA president Bjorn Vassallo said impact assessment would have to be carried out before a decision can be made.
