Malta secured their first point in the FIFA World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers on Saturday evening, battling to a well-earned 0–0 draw against Lithuania at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali.
The first half at Ta’ Qali saw Lithuania control possession, with Malta absorbing pressure and struggling to link play in the final third.

A new survey conducted by MaltaToday indicates that the Labour Party (PL) is currently leading the Nationalist Party (PN) by nearly 39,000 votes.
The survey, carried out between 28 May and 6 June among 647 respondents, reports the following national voting intentions: PL 53.3%, PN 39.7%, Momentum 3.1%, ADPD 1.6%, and Others 2.2%.
Labour’s lead has grown from 24,000 votes in April to almost 39,000 in June, according to the survey: “The Labour Party has increased its lead over the Nationalist Party from 24,000 votes in April to nearly 39,000 now,” MaltaToday’s June survey shows.
This increase is largely attributed to a significant drop in abstentions among Labour voters from the 2022 general election. The share of PL 2022 voters who now say they would not vote has fallen from 21.6% in September 2024 to just 6.7% today.
In contrast, the Nationalist Party is losing more support to third parties such as Momentum and ADPD and is facing lower voter retention overall.
Current voting intentions are broadly in line with the 2022 general election, when Labour also secured a significant lead.
Notably, a considerable number of individuals who did not vote in 2022 remain undecided or are leaning towards third parties—posing further challenges for the PN’s efforts to regain ground.

A man from Isla, aged 43, lost his life yesterday in a motorbike incident that took place on Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 5pm, the police were alerted to a traffic accident in Triq ix-Xatt Juan B Azopardo.
Malta Police force have revealed that the man had been riding a Honda motorbike when he lost control and collided with a bollard.
A medical team was called to the scene and provided assistance, but sadly, the man was certified dead at the scene.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
