Malta To Install Fire Hydrants In Streets For Fire Emergencies

Ministers Miriam Dalli and Byron Camilleri have announced that Malta will be getting several fire hydrants installed in various localities around the island to aid fire fighters in times of emergencies.

On her Facebook, Minister Dalli stated that this collaboration between the Water Services Corporation and the Civil Protection Department led to several fire hydrants with adequate water pressure to make it easier for firefighters who will no longer need to return to their stations to refill their vehicles.

She also revealed that special training will be provided for WSC employees on health and safety in the workplace.

Minister Camilleri stated that with these installed fire hydrants around the country, the Civil Protection Department will be providing a better quality of service to the community.

Most people know of the iconic overground red fire hydrants used all over the USA, however Malta will be following the European and Asian model deciding to adopt underground hydrants for safety measures.

CPD Officers Assist Injured Hiker In Naxxar

Earlier this week, Civil Protection Malta rescuers from Station 3, 11 and the Urban Search & Rescue team (USAR) were called to assist a casualty that required medical attention while hiking in Naxxar.

Civil Protection Malta also thanked the Malta Police Force and Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department for their assistance.

It is currently unclear what the identity or the state of the person rescued is.

Car Reportedly On Fire Outside St Julian’s Tunnel

A car has reportedly caught fire outside St Julian’s tunnel in direction towards Kappara.

Access to the tunnel is currently blocked by emergency services, with a major standstill currently in place.

Computers are urged to avoid the area. It is unclear whether anyone was injured.
