Malta will host the OSCE Ministerial Council on December 5–6, the largest international conference ever held in the country.
Organised by the Maltese Presidency of the OSCE and the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, the event will take place in Ta’ Qali, welcoming foreign ministers from the OSCE’s 57 member states, along with over 800 participants, including journalists and partner state representatives.
The conference will tackle pressing issues of peace and security and make decisions about the OSCE’s future leadership and operations.
Side events, including discussions on press freedom and gender equality, will complement the main sessions, alongside bilateral meetings between member states.
Preparations involve extensive logistical efforts, with over 2,000 personnel, including public officials and contractors, coordinating security, ICT services, and international broadcasting. A fully equipped venue is being established in Ta’ Qali for the occasion.
This gathering occurs during a challenging period for global peace, marked by ongoing conflicts, such as the Ukraine war, which has strained the OSCE’s consensus-based decision-making.
Malta assumed the OSCE Chairmanship in November 2022, positioning itself as a neutral advocate for peace and dialogue amid escalating international tensions.
