Malta registers the lowest-ever amount of fake bank notes in 2020

480 fake bank notes were retired from circulation in 2020, marking Malta’s lowest-ever amount of registered fake bank notes.

An insignificant number in comparison to the 20 million legitimate notes in circulation as well as the circa 220,000 retired fake bank notes in the Euro Zone in 2020.

According to a statement from the Central Bank of Malta, the €20 and €50 notes were the most frequently falsified during the second half of 2020 whilst also marking an increase in fake €5 and €10 notes.

The Central Bank went on to call for the public’s vigilance when conducted transactions with bank notes and to always check for genuine characteristics.

Luke Lyttleton, one of Malta’s favourite jokesters and member of local TikTok group ‘The Boys’ has just had his TikTok account removed, with Luke thus losing his 29K followers and having to start from the beginning.

193 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 148 recoveries

Malta has registered 193 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,323 swab tests, while 148 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Tuesday 26th January 2021, 22,371 vaccine doses were administered of which 1,694 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 17,192 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 14,252 have recovered, 258 died and 2,682 are still active.

Temperature check & staying in car during trip amongst carnival measures

In today’s press conference with regards to Malta’s COVID-19 mitigation measures during February and the Carnival period, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a number of measures with regards to Gozo trips.

People crossing over from islands must get their temperature check whilst people travelling with their vehicles must remain in the vehicle for the entirety of the trip.

The Prime Minister also announced that while Gozo will not be closed, additional police watch in Rabat, Nadur and other villages will be implemented with the Malta Tourism Authority monitoring that no more people than beds will be within accommodations during carnival.
