Malta Rangers To Launch New Sea Unit

The Malta Ranger Unit has announced that, following an increase in maritime reports, a sea unit will be opening to concentrate solely on such reports.

‘This ‘split’ would result in two task forces, trained to deal more efficiently with the specific reports. The long term goal to employ Sea Rangers with the MSRU to work at sea’, the rangers explained.

They are currently looking for dedicated volunteers with a genuine interest for the sea and maritime protection. ‘Diving license or any other licenses related to sea is a big plus’, they explained.

€68 Million Investment Into AFM Announced

A new sectoral agreement for members of the Armed Forces of Malta was signed on Monday evening at the Ħal Luqa barracks.

The agreement includes an increase in the overall salary package, bringing the total wage investment to €68 million.

It was signed between the Government and the General Workers’ Union, which represents the soldiers.

Around 1,800 officers are expected to benefit from improved pay and working conditions.

This agreement follows an earlier one signed several years ago and forms part of broader ongoing discussions within the public sector.

According to the Government, it is one of 11 agreements concluded over a two-month period aimed at improving conditions for public administration employees.

During the signing event, Prime Minister Robert Abela described the agreement as an investment in public service personnel and referred to the Government’s broader efforts to update agreements regularly.

He said the country’s financial position made such commitments possible.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said the agreement was part of a wider commitment to improving both national security and workers’ rights. He added that better conditions for disciplined forces had become a consistent focus.

Brigadier Clinton J. O’Neill, Commander of the Armed Forces, also spoke at the event. He said the agreement would help strengthen the force and support new recruits, and he thanked all parties involved in reaching the deal.

Senior government officials, including Principal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana, were also present at the signing.

The Official Opening Of The ‘Early Pregnancy Unit’ At Mater Dei Hospital

Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Jo Etienne Abela, has announced the official opening of the ‘Early Pregnancy Unit’ at Mater Dei Hospital, designed to support individuals experiencing complications during early stages of pregnancy.

“At Mater Dei Hospital, we recognised the need for a dedicated unit to care for individuals facing complications during their pregnancy journey. The Government listened to and understood the public’s call for the creation of this unit.” stated Minister Abela.

Minister Abela explained that, on average, three people in Malta experience a miscarriage every day, with approximately 400 patients per year being admitted to Mater Dei Hospital as a result. The new unit will provide space for up to eight patients requiring further care and monitoring. It will also include an outpatient clinic specifically for individuals experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss.

The Minister further outlined that the unit will be operated by a team of 20 trained professionals, including nurses and midwives. Following specialised training, the Early Pregnancy Unit is scheduled to begin offering its services as of next week.

“I am confident that the Early Pregnancy Unit will not only fulfil its intended purpose, but will also serve as a vital support structure for those who unfortunately experience complications during pregnancy. The Government remains committed to enhancing and expanding services for individuals navigating this critical phase of their lives.” concluded Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
