To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), under the direction of Resident Conductor Michael Laus, will perform the iconic work at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on Sunday, November 3rd. Members of the Malta Youth Orchestra will also join the MPO for this landmark event.
Beethoven’s final symphony, which introduced the groundbreaking addition of vocal soloists and a chorus, includes the famous choral section based on Friedrich Schiller’s Ode to Joy, conveying themes of universal brotherhood and joy.
Internationally renowned soloists soprano Elisabeth Breuer, mezzo-soprano Theresa Kronthaler, tenor Patrick Reiter, and bass Modestas Sedlevicius will perform alongside The New Choral Singers and the Goldberg Ensemble.
This symphony, a cornerstone of classical music, continues to inspire audiences with its powerful message and transformative musical elements. The performance is set to be a highlight in Malta’s cultural calendar.
