Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association predicting tourism recover for Malta during summer

The Maltese Association of Hotels and Restaurants is predicting a steady recovery for local tourism following the country’s entry into the UK travel green list.

MHRA President Tony Zahra welcomed Malta’s green list qualification with open arms, highlighting the decision as a critical turning point in Malta’s tourism recovery, with the UK being Malta’s primary market in tourism.

Zahra applauded the Government’s creation of balance between economy and health, going on to highlight that we must remain vigilant as the pandemic and its challenges are still among us.

“We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. So now is the time for us to work together to revive the tourism sector which is crucial for the local economy”.

5 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 3 recoveries

Malta has registered 5 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,127 swab tests, while 3 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Thursday 24th June 2021, 646,651 vaccine doses were administered of which 355,100 were 1st doses. 303,939 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 30,603 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,154 have recovered, 420 died and 29 are still active.

Establishments to stay open until 2am as from Monday in new measures

As of the coming Monday, the opening tie of restaurants, bars, band clubs and snack bars will be extended from midnight until 2am, within the establishments’ license conditions.

Contact sport amongst children and fitness classes will also be able to continue while boat operators will be able to operate at a higher capacity, going up from 50% to 65%.

Mater Dei Hospital will also see an extension in its visiting hours, being from 11:30am to 1pm and from 3pm to 8pm while the Health Authorities have also reiterated their plans to allow fully vaccinated people to go mask-less as long as they aren’t in groups of larger than 2.

Yazmin Zammit Stevens to represent Malta at Tokyo Olympic Games

Local weightlifting prodigy Yazmin Zammit Stevens’ is headed to Tokyo after being added to Team Malta’s list of Athletes for the XXXIII Games of the Olympiad in Tokyo.

The athlete immediately took to social media to share the heart-warming news, expressing her excitement and life-long commitment towards this milestone.

Zammit Stevens will be joining Team Malta after her participation in the IOC Tripartite Commission and will make history as Malta’s first female weightlifter competing in the Olympic Games. The Games are set to take place in the Japanese Capital between 23 July and 8 August 2021.
