Malta have beaten fellow small European country San Marino to start their UEFA Nations League campaign on the right foot. The Maltese players managed to score 2 goals past San Marino to secure a well-earned win despite two of their key players, Ryan Camenzuli and Teddy Teuma being absent.

The first half was not the best start for the Maltese team. They did not seem focused making multiple mistakes in possession which led to coach Devis Mangia on the touchline telling his players to calm down and play. Even though they had a slow start, the Maltese players had better chances than the quite defensive San Marino team.
The second half saw the introduction of Jan Busuttil and Juan Corbalan to the game. The two players changed the game on its head with Busuttil scoring a great individual goal in the 59th minute to give Malta the much needed goal. Corbalan managed to contribute in the 75th minute finding Matthew Guillaumier who managed to head in the ball to double Malta’s lead.
The win sent the Maltese team to the top of the Group D2 alongside Estonia with three points. The Maltese team will now have their eyes on next Thursday’s crucial match against Estonia to carve out a lead at the top of the group D2.
