Michele Marcolini led his team to a victory against Luxembourg after a 64th minute attempt by Kyrian Nwoko found the net to hand the Maltese a 1-0 win.

Despite it being a very challenging game for Malta, with the hosts proving to be formidable opponents, the Maltese managed to keep them back from taking over.

After Nwoko was taken off the bench after the break along with midfielder Bjorn Kristensen, the tactical move by Marcolini proved to be exactly what they needed to find the goal.

The win will undoubtedly motivate the Maltese further as they get ready to face England at the National Stadium and Ukraine after that.

Well done boys!

726,299 passengers move through Malta Airport in May 2023

726,299 passengers move through Malta Airport in May 2023
Jun 10 2023 Share

May 2023 saw the second consecutive month during which more than 700,000 passengers moved through the Malta International Airport.

May traffic amounted to 726,299 passenger movements, which is an increase of 77% over the same month back in 2019.

The seat capacity increased by 4.3% when compared to the aforementioned year, with the average seat load factor gaining 2.7% points over the reference year to reach 82.9%.

Italy continued to keep its top spot, leading the Malta International Airport market with a 24% market share. It was followed by the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

Meanwhile, Italy, France and Spain all outperformed their respective 2019 passenger traffic results.

The growth registered by Italy and France was associated to an increase in flights to and from these destinations. As for Spain, the growth was largely the result of improved seat load factors.

The UK and Germany, however, continued to perform below 2019 levels as flight connections between Malta and these respective countries did not fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite this, Germany still resisted the highest increase in seat load factor when compared to May 2019. Moreover, the start of flights to Hamburg and Dusseldorf, in May, operated by Eurowings is expected to support the German market in its recovery during the summer months.

Playing at the Noa Beach Club, our very own and locally beloved DJ Daniel Briffa got to give the party-goers in Croatia not just a taste of the local music scene.

They were treated to, arguably, Malta’s most popular catchphrase at the moment, which was delivered to us in all its glory by Love Islander Dale as he asked Allen whether he was feeling comfy on his beanbag.

Let’s see if this catchphrase catches on in Croatia as well!

And of course, well done to Daniel!

A total of 22 clubs have won the Champions League/European Cup. Real Madrid holds the record for the most victories, having won the competition fourteen times, including the inaugural edition. They have also achieved the most consecutive wins, with five straight titles from 1956 to 1960. Juventus has been the runner-up the most times, losing in seven finals. Atlético Madrid is the only team to reach three finals without winning the trophy.

Regarding the Champions League finals reached, Manchester City has reached the final twice, first in 2021 against Chelsea and this year against Inter Milan. On the other hand, Inter Milan has reached the UCL final a total of six times.

When it comes to Champions League victories, Manchester City is still chasing their first Champions League glory, which has become the club’s main goal in recent years. In contrast, Inter Milan has won the tournament three times, in 1964, 1965, and most recently in 2010 against Bayern Munich. They have also lost two finals, and tonight’s Champions League final puts them as the least favourite to win.

As for the prize money, in the last season, Real Madrid collected €83.2 million in Champions League performance-based prize money, including an additional €4.5 million for winning the UEFA Super Cup in August 2022.

In the 2022/23 Champions League, winning the entire competition with a perfect group-stage performance would earn a maximum prize money payout of €85.14 million. However, neither Manchester City nor Inter Milan, this year’s finalists, managed to win all their group games.

In terms of clubs with the most Champions League victories, Real Madrid is known as the Champions League Kings, having won it a total of 14 times. AC Milan, who reached the semifinals this year, has won it seven times. Bayern Munich has also won the tournament six times.
