
Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli met with Egyptian Minister for Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat to explore opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy, distribution infrastructure, and virtual interconnections.
As Mediterranean neighbours, Malta and Egypt agreed to promote investment in renewable energy across the region, aiming to transform the Mediterranean into a hub for clean energy.
“Malta and Egypt share strong ties, and through increased collaboration, we can drive the initiative launched in Malta via MED9 to establish the Mediterranean as a clean energy hub.
This partnership also creates economic opportunities, fostering greater regional stability,” said Minister Dalli.
The ministers discussed innovative solutions to enhance electricity system resilience amid rising temperatures linked to climate change.
They also reviewed ongoing projects, including Malta’s interconnection with Italy and Egypt’s plans to strengthen its links with Europe, exploring the potential for a virtual interconnection once these initiatives are completed.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions at technical and political levels to deepen bilateral ties.
During her visit to Egypt, Minister Dalli toured several energy companies focused on developing cutting-edge technologies.
