Malta and Egypt Discuss Renewable Energy Collaboration

Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli met with Egyptian Minister for Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat to explore opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy, distribution infrastructure, and virtual interconnections.

As Mediterranean neighbours, Malta and Egypt agreed to promote investment in renewable energy across the region, aiming to transform the Mediterranean into a hub for clean energy.

“Malta and Egypt share strong ties, and through increased collaboration, we can drive the initiative launched in Malta via MED9 to establish the Mediterranean as a clean energy hub.

This partnership also creates economic opportunities, fostering greater regional stability,” said Minister Dalli.

The ministers discussed innovative solutions to enhance electricity system resilience amid rising temperatures linked to climate change.

They also reviewed ongoing projects, including Malta’s interconnection with Italy and Egypt’s plans to strengthen its links with Europe, exploring the potential for a virtual interconnection once these initiatives are completed.

Both sides agreed to continue discussions at technical and political levels to deepen bilateral ties.

During her visit to Egypt, Minister Dalli toured several energy companies focused on developing cutting-edge technologies.

The nomination results for Big Brother Malta have been announced, with participants Dwayne and Matthias receiving the most votes from housemates for eviction.

However, only one participant can be evicted each week, leaving the decision in the hands of the public to vote on who should leave the house.

Meanwhile, Raisa was granted immunity from this elimination phase as the Head of House. Josline and Donna were also spared, as they did not receive any nominations for eviction from their fellow housemates.

President Myriam Spiteri Debono Visits Pope Francis

President Myriam Spiteri Debono recently held a private audience with His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican.

During the meeting, the Pope fondly recalled his visit to Malta in 2022 and shared memories of his studies in Buenos Aires, where two Gozitan students were among his Jesuit peers.

The discussion touched on various topics, including the role of women in leadership and the importance of increasing birth rates.

Accompanied by her husband, Dr Anthony Spiteri Debono, family members, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and Tourism Affairs Dr Ian Borg, Malta’s Ambassador to the Holy See Frank Zammit, and officials from the President’s Office, the delegation presented Pope Francis with medical equipment for the Ambulatorio Madre di Misericordia clinic, which offers free healthcare to those in need. Maltese and Gozitan delicacies were also gifted.

The President later visited the clinic, acknowledging its efforts and the opportunities it provides to Maltese medical students.

She also toured the Bambino Gesù Hospital, which treats Maltese patients and trains Maltese medical students. Discussions centred on advancements in medicine and collaboration with Malta’s Medical School.

The President’s visit continues in Poland, where she will attend the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
