A recent internal party poll, as reported by the Times of Malta, predicts a significant victory for the Labour Party in the upcoming European Party elections in June, should former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat participate.
According to the poll, conducted by esteemed statistician and pollster Vince Marmarà, the Labour Party could outpace the Nationalist Party (PN) by over 40,000 votes with Muscat on the ballot. The survey also suggests that without Muscat, the Labour Party is still projected to win but by a narrower margin of approximately 27,000 votes.
Interestingly, the poll highlights a potential shift in voter behaviour with Muscat’s involvement. It indicates that around 20,000 Labour voters who might otherwise abstain or remain undecided could be swayed to vote, predominantly in favour of Muscat.
This sentiment is further emphasised by the statistic that eight out of every ten Labour voters would support Muscat, and 44 percent of currently undecided Labour voters would choose him as their top preference if he were to run.
The findings underscore the significant influence Joseph Muscat still wields within the Labour Party and hint at a more decisive victory in the European Party elections should he decide to participate.
