Lydia Abela tests positive for COVID-19

Following the news earlier today that Lydia Abela had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, it was revealed that she has unfortunately tested positive for the virus. Prime Minister Robert Abela took to Facebook to announce the news, revealing that she had to take the test due to upcoming work responsibilities. He stated that she is not experiencing any symptoms and that his and Giorgia Mae’s results were negative.

He added that the family will be adhering to quarantine for the given time. The Prime Minister concluded by saying that he seeks to continue his work, including important meetings, through the use of technology. We wish Lydia a speedy recovery!

Minister Aaron Farrugia announces new green Romeo Romano Garden project

Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia announced a brand new multi-million euro project for Romeo Romano Garden in St. Venera. Speaking at a press conference, the Minister announced how the locality will be given a new green area which they can enjoy together with their families. The garden itself will consist of a playground for the public to freely enjoy.

In the second phase of the project, the Minister announced that a historical building, which is currently abandoned, will be restored and will serve as a kitchen garden. The Minister seeks to elevate the locality’s air quality due to the highly urbanised spaces and give back to the community a fresh nature space.

6 year jail term for 70-year-old teacher who abused school-boy

70-year-old Alexander Giacomotto, who in 2014 was found guilty of corrupting minors, has received a confirmed jail sentence of six years. Giacomotto has been found guilty of defiling the boy on various occasions at his house, in his car and at school. Taking place between 1992 and 1996, the boy spoke up in 2005 when admitting to his girlfriend. Giacomotto was charged in 2007 after he filed a report the following year.

The victim was 12 years old and defilement continued until he was 16 years old. The boy was also given money following the defilement, with Giacomotto convincing the boy’s parents to send him to private lessons at his home. After appealing the sentence, Giacomotto’s appeal was denied and the sentence confirmed.

Bernard Grech calls for urgent PN meeting following internal dispute

Following several posts on social media concerning disputes between former PN leader Adrian Delia and MP Jason Azzopardi, current Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech took to Facebook to call for an urgent internal meeting.

Stating that the posts circulating could have broken several Nationalist Party rules, Grech called for the Executive Committee in urgency to meet and work on taking the required decisions under such circumstances.

This news comes out following Adrian Delia’s  comments on Jason Azzopardi’s Facebook post concerning the libel case he won against Vincent Borg.
