Jon Mallia Calls Out Maltese Leaders Over MIDI Manoel Island Development

May 29 2025 Share

In a powerful social media post, podcaster and public figure Jon Mallia has openly criticised both Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech for their roles in the ongoing MIDI/Manoel Island controversy.

Mallia accused both leaders of “singing the same chorus, written by the same composer,” implying that despite leading opposing parties, they are united in protecting corporate interests over those of the Maltese public.

He questioned how neither has spoken up for ordinary citizens, suggesting that their silence shows a failure to prioritise Malta’s future generations.

Jon also compared the actions of Malta’s leaders to this ongoing case right now and the previous case of former Gżira mayor Conrad Borg Manche, who faced intense legal pushback for opposing a petrol station development in a public garden.

He highlighted how much government effort and taxpayer money was spent to silence that resistance, compared to the complete lack of political challenge in the MIDI-Manoel Island saga.

Mallia made it clear he doesn’t blame MIDI for defending shareholder interests, but places responsibility squarely on elected officials. Ending his post with a rallying call to the public, he wrote: “Malta, I still believe in you. Malta, stand tall.”

Major Infrastructure Upgrades Underway in 13 Ħaż-Żabbar Alleys

May 29 2025 Share

With an investment of €500,000, significant infrastructure works are currently being carried out in 13 residential alleyways across Ħaż-Żabbar, with over 1.5 kilometres of roads being completely rebuilt.

The project is set to improve the daily lives of more than 100 families living in these areas.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, visited one of the sites alongside Żabbar Mayor Jorge Grech.

He emphasised that these upgrades are not only enhancing the quality of life for residents in the affected alleys but also contributing positively to the overall environment and infrastructure of the town.

Mayor Jorge Grech noted that this large-scale investment has been made possible through an agreement between the Public Works Department and 54 Local Councils, aimed at streamlining and facilitating similar community projects.

Architect Kurt Sapiano outlined the scope of the ongoing works, which include the complete replacement of drainage and water systems, along with new paving to ensure better accessibility for all residents.

The upgrades are part of a broader effort to modernise residential areas and ensure more resilient infrastructure throughout Ħaż-Żabbar.
